That was cool - I really love that sound.
It does sound 'woody', and ... brown ... everybody knows about Ed and the brown sound, but Al once said to an interviewer that when it came to the drums he wanted the snare to sound like 'beatin' on a log', or that you could hear the wood in the stick!
And - best of all - 'I don't compare it to brown. It is brown'.

I've heard other well-known drummers rave about Alex' snare and overall tone. The dude is the shit, VERY highly respected among his peers.
Both he and Ed are serious tonehounds.
