"The re-recorded songs are the worst thing anyone has ever talked Geoff Tate into doing, as they only serve to highlight just how much his voice has deteriorated. The mix on the samples is not good in any sense of the word, and any promise the original songs may have had is dragged into mediocrity by Tate's inability to do much more than spoken word-style vocals. A multitude of classic bands are content to rest on their collective laurels. Royalties roll in, merchandise moves along and nothing fresh is expected from them creatively, anyway. They tour haphazardly and sometimes shamelessly on the nostalgic fumes of faded glories. Hit albums are continuously reformatted and regurgitated. They've made it. Why work harder?

Queensrÿche stand proudly and defiantly against that career model.

It is true that a lot of bands do that but it's not due to laziness or lack of work. They try to release new music, and even if it is technically better or even the same as some hit album, it won't match the success just due to timing. A lot of a "hit" album is just coming out with the right music at the right time.

Had Motley Crue waited just 2 more years to release Feelgood they would have been like Great White right now. You fall in to a tailspin you can't dig out of. And 2 years isn't that long. Been over a year already since ADKOT.

RATT released a new album recently and it sounded great! Would have been a tremendous hit, if it were 1987/88. Still a great album, took hard work, etc...

So here is my challenge to "Queensryche". Release a new album and only play that live. Don't rely on that old stuff and be lazy. Chickenfoot did that. Didn't play any songs from any of the members history. Only new album songs and maybe a few cover tunes. And that Chickenfoot tour was not a success by any stretch. People wanted to hear the famous songs.

They fight with their singer, tour haphazardly and shamelessly regurgitate their once mighty material. Hit albums are a thing of the past. "We kinda made it. Why work harder?"

Queensrÿche stand proudly and defiantly as inventors of such a career model. Thirty years after their formation, the often confused 'Reich' land themselves straight into the bargain bin with Dedicated to Chaos, an experimental album that will further confuse the audience and rock n' roll critics alike in profound and disturbing ways. There is nothing safe or savory about Queensrÿche's twelfth (??) studio album. No rules. No boundaries, no music. It's the latest in a string of unimpressive feats from the Seattle band.

"It’s kind of a worthless endeavor to be focused on what other people think," points out ex-Queensrÿche vocalist Geoff Tater, long recognized as having one foot in the looney bin. "There’s so many different ways to interpret music and art in general. It’s not meant to be static. It’s meant to be moving, changing and growing. like when you take a good shit"

Dedicated to Chaos is the sound of Queensrÿche marching off into oblivion. Their inability to challenge themselves puts the audience to sleep. In an era when bands will sacrifice musical and audio quality to crank out records, Dedicated to Chaos is a true "Sacrifice."

"It’s not a record that tells a story. We wanted to take a step away from that and really concentrate on writing stupid shit that says nothing at all," Tate emphasizes. "You’ll find a lot of different kinds of bullshit on this record intended at ripping some change from your pocket."

"It's definitely a stretch for us in a lot of ways," he adds. "Not so much in composition, but in the way it's played. I play the pink Oboe and It's really stretching out and trying to do different things with our instruments."

Queensrÿche talked about what they wanted to accomplish when they formed back in 1981. One of the commonalities was their desire to push themselves at all times.

In that spirit, Dedicated to Chaos sees a larger amount of writing contributions from the other guys who pushed tater to the curb.

Queensrÿche has survived label shakeups, the rise and fall of grunge, illegal downloading and shrinking radio formats. Will they survive without Tater ??

The last QR album I actually bought was Q2k, which I thought had a few decent moments, but overall was third-rate. I have not bothered with anything from Promised Land to Q2k, nor have I bothered with anything since Q2k. I heard that one single....American Whatever they released a few years back, and it was a piece of shit.

So this afternoon, he sets up a meet and greet at a local liquor store, where he has cases of his whine to sell to people, and from what a close friend says, he would sign anything you brought.

If You Hate GEOFF TATE's New QUEENSRŸCHE Album, He Wants To Hear From You - Apr. 26, 2013

Do you really hate "Frequency Unknown", the new album from the Geoff Tate-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE? Have you already blogged about it online? Well, metal geeks, if you've got the balls to stand behind your opinion, then here is the contest for you.

Stop hiding behind your computer keyboards and smart phones and show Tate and his record label, Deadline Music/Cleopatra Records, how much you hate "Frequency Unknown" by submitting your "video rant" to them via YouTube video. Start by giving them your real name on camera and proceed to rant away. Geoff Tate will film himself choosing the best video rant and will post online for your enjoyment. The winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Seattle, Washington to see QUEENSRŸCHE in their hometown on June 29, along with VIP special guest seating, meet-and-greet passes for after the show and a merchandise package worth $250 that he or she can feel free to either burn — or wear in style!

Contest rules:

1. Video rants must be submitted via YouTube and contestant must state on camera before beginning the rant: "My name is (real first and last name per ID and/or passport) and this is my video submission for the QUEENSRŸCHE "best rant" contest — or video will not be considered.

"Frequency Unknown" was released on April 23. The CD was produced by Jason Slater at a studio in Northern California. The first single from the effort, "Cold", can be streamed below. The track, which was mixed by Anthony Focx (NEWSTED, AEROSMITH, NIGHT RANGER, TED NUGENT), will also be released as a special limited-edition seven-inch vinyl single with a newly recorded version of the QUEENSRŸCHE classic "Silent Lucidity" — mixed by Jürgen Engler (DORO, DIE KRUPPS) — on the B-side.

Asked about the decision to remix "Frequency Unknown" shortly before the album's release, Tate told "The Continental Breakfast With James & Raina": "We were a little rushed on the mixing end of it, so after listening to it back, we're having some of the songs remixed now before the album comes out. But that's typical with records — you have to have them in on time. So sometimes you compromise in areas. Luckily, with this situation, we get to go back and correct some areas in the sound where we thought it was kind of lacking. So that's fine. I've done that on… gosh… probably three quarters of the records I've ever made. It's no new thing, but it's a luxury when you get to fix it."

"Frequency Unknown" is packaged with bonus tracks — four QUEENSRŸCHE classics, newly recorded, including the smash hit single "Silent Lucidity". Guest musicians on the CD include K.K. Although a lineup for Tate's QUEENSRŸCHE was originally announced in the fall of 2012, things have changed. The band now features Tate along with bassist Rudy Sarzo (OZZY OSBOURNE, DIO, WHITESNAKE, QUIET RIOT), guitarist Kelly Gray (QUEENSRŸCHE 1998-2001), keyboardist Randy Gane and new additions, guitarist Robert Sarzo (QUIET RIOT, HURRICANE) and drummer Simon Wright (AC/DC, DIO, RHINO BUCKET).

Wow! The winner gets a free vacation to Seattle? And the winner gets to see Queensryche?

I will have to check out to see where in Seattle they are playing and get ready for this.

Not interested in seeing the tater cover band, but if tater's record label is paying my way up there so I can see Queensryche with their new singer, then hell yes, I am sooo there!

Since he supposedly wrote all the material and lyrics and probably secretly played all the instruments too, as well as designing the album, vetting all the contracts and distribution agreements, as well as appearing in court as his own attorney, driving his own lime, and doing everything else himself (as he says he does everything anyway), you would think he would attempt to write/record/perform some good material.}

Instead, his "vision" is that of a bald, has-been whine taster whose attempts to be relevant to the current musical culture are meeting with abject failure......


Happy for Rudy, Simon, etc. for the gig....hope they are getting paid enough that they can ignore the criticism they get for playing with that boring idiot.

Seriously.....just because tater strolls around the stage like a middle-aged queen in a velvet smoking jacket doesn't mean everyone is going to think he is sooo cool.....a fact lost on tater and those who are stupid enough to involve themselves with him.

On a humane level, I will wish tater the best of luck, even though all the luck in the world will not save him from himself.

Having such a sarcastic contest as this really is an excercise in foolishness, and I find it difficult to believe that anyone with half a brain would want to create much less implement such a plan.

But, insanity comes in many forms, and tater's cumulative silliness has been manifesting itself over the past few years in bizarre and strange ways....certainly in the stuff he tries to pass off as music.....

tater needs the cash for his legal bills, and figures he should release his own version of their most popular single to try to earn 3 or 4 dollars and some change.

I am sure that he is not able to command live performance fees that equal what he could get with the real band......though of course in recent years under his leadership, I would imagine they could not get the same bucks as they did back in their prime anyway.

That's maybe a little harsh but can any band afford to lose their singer and lead guitarist? I watched a couple of other tracks from the same show(I was never a huge fan of the EP to be honest) and it's ok but a little bit meh. I may go and see them but I wouldn't bust a gut to get a ticket.
