Thumbs up RUSH - Exit Stage Left - Video - 56:39

Pretty sure I can escape any sort of lawsuit here as I am merely re-posting something that has been seen freely upon the internet since around July 8, 2011.

For me, these guys were simply awesome at this time (1981).

    Track listing:
Intro (includes narration, with segments of "The Camera Eye" live version), 2:15
    "Limelight", 4:38
"Tom Sawyer" (Lee, Lifeson, Peart, Dubois), 5:00
    "The Trees", 4:47 >
"Xanadu", 12:32 (narration at the beginning)
    "Red Barchetta", 6:37
    "Freewill", 5:50
"Closer to the Heart" (Lee, Lifeson, Peart, Talbot), 3:30
"YYZ" (Lee, Peart) (segments of the live version, with interview audio) 1:25
    "By-Tor and the Snow Dog", 4:13 >
"In the End" (Lee, Lifeson), 1:42 >
"In the Mood" (by Lee), 1:35 >
    "2112: Grand Finale", 2:42
    End Credits ("YYZ"), 2:20

I never get tired of watching that incredible musicianship....

If today's bands want to know what's missing in their music, all they have to do is watch any Rush video....

I've always thought that Lifeson's solo on "Freewill" may be one of the greatest things he played live...

Not as good as La Villa Strangiato, though...

Here's a ripping cover of La Villa Strangiato.
Might be too many notes for some tastes, but I think this guy shreds with a lot of feeling.
    Postworthy nonetheless.

I've seen Rush so many times live I've lost count. I thought they were at their prime right about the time this video was made and I was lucky enough to see them around that time as well. I believe my concert ticket for general admission was $7.50. Rock and roll just has become too commercialized. What ruined entertainment is what ruined sports. Too much money involved and most the people in it are spoiled. There really doesn't seem to be doing it for the love of it anymore and once you go too far into making money for money's sake, it taints the art. It loses it's edge.

No shit. I've seen RUSH live like 20-some-odd-times and I'll still go see them any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Seeing them for the first time coming in Sept...I think the Ticket was 80ish...good deal considering what some bands are charging.

Seen so many live DVD's though seems like I have been to many shows.

Amazing band...unreal how many people think they suck though...

    Yeah, it's not for everybody.
What I like about them looking back is that there's always amazing stuff you forget about that is always fresh to revisit.

The lighting rig looks like the same one they used for The Signals tour. They used some of the same video backdrops. My best friend's dad took a teaching job at a state university and his mom worked for the venue's ticket office. I would stay with them a lot and she always could get us passes for shows coming through. We had passes for the Rush show and we were just throwing a frisby around and the road crew politely asked us to stop and they actually talked us into doing some work for them.

That was the first time I ever saw the full on setup for a show. Rush had a great crew and some of those guys still work for them. Rush is definitely a unique band from all perspectives. They were always a go out and tour band. I bet they have logged more road hours than most bands.

I lost count of how many times I saw them in the 70's. Seemed like there was always a Rush show rolling into either Calgary or Edmonton. They were always one of my favourite live bands.

They certainly didn't have any egos and had every reason to have egos because they were so damn good. Three nerds really but man could they pull it off on stage and make some great music.

I had a neighbor who saw Rush play in East Lansing, MI back in 1974 when John Rutsey was behind the drum kit.

Hell, there's probably some old fart somewhere in Toronto who still thinks Rush went to Hell when they got rid of their original drummer.

Can't imagine who could possibly believe that, but given all the idiotic posts I've read that claimed "Sammy is so much better than Dave" it wouldn't surprise me at all.

(To be fair, Rutsey wasn't a bad drummer either. But he damn sure was no Neil Peart. And he didn't write lyrics either.... which might have been the weakest point of their first album)

Unholy shit, I didn't realize there was any live footage of them from the Rutsey days......

definitely the smallest drum kit I've ever seen on a Rush stage.

Terrific live band for sure. I think a lot of people who can't get past Geddy's voice or the sci-fi lyrics would come away converted if they saw them live. I'm somewhere between a casual and serious fan of them. Saw them once in 2007 and I was very, very impressed. It's refreshing to know that you will get a professional, extremely well-rehearsed three hour show EVERY night from these guys. I'm leaning towards seeing them again this fall.

Rush was the second major band I ever saw live and the first without tagging along with family, at the old Memorial Aud building in 1987 (or 88?) on the Hold Your Fire Tour. I might pony up for tix in October...

Seeing them last year playing Moving Pictures in its entirety may be one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. (other than VH of course). Clockwork Angels may be the best rush album in the last 20 years.

My wife can't stand Geddy's voice. I like their early stuff where he used to just wail. I also liked Signals and Grace Under Pressure. The stuff after that not so much.

Mine either, I think it is a woman thing. I have never had a girlfriend who dug them. When I saw them a year ago in New Orleans my wife didn't even go and I had to eat an extra ticket. I enjoyed the show, it was my first Rush show and I went primarily because they played Moving Pictures start to finish. I consider that album to be somewhat of a masterpiece.

You need a Canadian woman. I know quite a few female Rush fans.

I think both Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures are perfect albums. Moving Pictures gets all the credit and it's well-deserved, but Permanent Waves is just as good in my opinion.

If you go to a Rush concert to pick up chicks you are wasting your time. I remember going to a Duran Duran concert in the 80's and I swear I could smell the wet pussies. Them chicks were going nuts. Rush you went only for the music.

The older I get the more I appreciat Caress of Steel. I love it when Geddy goes I think we were quite stoned when we recorded that album. LOL!

I've actually been learing the guitar solo from this.

I never could sound like Eddie and playing like him just does not come natural for me but I can do a pretty good Alex Lifeson. I just naturally play more like him. I always loved that flanging sound he got.
