This is fantastic! I was just thinking the other day, "what does humanity need the most?" And of course the first thing that sprung to mind was, "another Led Zeppelin DVD!"

I always figured the reason why Skynyrd, Alice, and especially KISS (add Deep Purple to this list as well) weren't inducted yet, is because of the question of WHO gets inducted. And it's not like the Hall of Fame has a consistent policy with these things, i.e. Black Sabbath inducts ONLY the original members, while the Red Retard gets to tag along when Van Halen gets the invite.
Still have no idea why Rush isn't in there. They have had the same lineup since 1974, and I doubt anybody would object to John Rutsey being inducted with them. Only thing I can guess is that their flaming dickwad of a manager has something to do with it. Yeah, I'm still gonna throw in a Ray Danniels bash when the opportunity comes up. I wouldn't be FORD if I didn't!

Rush should have been in years ago with Deep Purple. Is Lemmy in ?

As has now become the norm, the band puts something out named after a song not even included in the release ("Celebration Day"). For anyone still interested or barely remaining awake, here is the track list:
1. Good Times Bad Times
2. Ramble On
3. Black Dog
4. In My Time of Dying
5. For Your Life
6. Trampled Under Foot
7. Nobody's Fault But Mine
8. No Quarter
9. Since I've Been Loving You
10. Dazed and Confused
11. Stairway to Heaven
12. The Song Remains the Same
13. Misty Mountain Hop
14. Kashmir
15. Whole Lotta Love
16. Rock and Roll

I'd love to hear Alex play with these guys. At least on Misty Mountain.
I don't know who comes closer to Bonham's style than Alex.
Keeping rhythm is one thing, but keeping it together and making every hit musical is another, and Bonham set that bar high.

It's unfair to ask any band to re-capture their heyday, but watching that clip of Black Dog was the musical equivalent of watching pensioner porn.....

I think this is going to be brilliant....as much as it can be
they are all (the 3 ZEP guys) senior citizens....and they were notoriously "spotty" in their heyday.....
that being said...when they were "ON" they were untouchable........
Now....if we could only get some LIVE official footage of VH...now & in THEIR heyday......I'd be a happy Mutha Fucka!!!

This would have been more exciting five years ago...
It would have been more exciting five years ago, agreed. But I'm still down for anything Zep. Walking into Clarksville was cool, would like to hear more of Page/Plant and include Jones.

If you can stay awake through it, it's funny watching these guys talking about their last gig that was about as long ago as The Beatles' and Van Halen's initial careers lasted...

It'll be interesting to compare the raw audio feeds to whatever ends up being released on the official dvd after being...er..."enhanced" during the mixing.
While I will say that the O2 stuff was the best they've sounded in public since 1980, no amount of post-concert studio trickery will be able to mask how goddamned awful Stairway was performed at O2. Although it naturally didn't live up to the hype surrounding it, the O2 concert overall was decent. Bonham and Jones held it together. Plant was fair-to-good, considering his age. Page for his part was well-rehearsed.

The drums are the worse part...

Pretty much, yet I wouldn't blame the drums so much as the drummer, as it's a poor carpenter that blames his tools upon the results. Having said that, where his father would swing and use subtlety (I'm not kidding, get past the sound and listen to the restraint in John Bonham's playing over the years), his son simply plods, bashes and plows his way through things. At this rate, the younger Bonham probably would only find work in a Bad Co/Zep knock-off band like Foreigner or merely form his own third rate LZ cover band. Oh shit, wait a minute...

The drums on that sound and fit better than Jason Bonham in 2007...
Love this type of stuff.
For everybody who bitched about Dave's vocals this time out, I give you exhibit A, Percy Plant. Yeah, he's a bit older than Dave, but he and Dave were close to the same age when comparing O2 to 2012 Dave and Plant sounds worse IMO. At least Van Halen didn't have to change the key of their songs to accommodate Dave's voice. Bob hasn't sounded good in ages. I really liked Walking into Clarksdale, but I thought Plant sounded bad on that record and it came out, what, 14 years ago?

I don't have the link for it, unfortunately, but somewhere on youtube there's audio of the band rehearsing Black Dog in its early stage. The song breaks down a couple of times as the band works on timing issues and Bonham leads a discussion on working out the timing. We're all used to the finished project, so it was fascinating to me to hear them putting the song together in rehearsals and hearing them talk about the arrangement.

Bonzo died 32 years ago today, BTW....
Yep , I remember it well . It was kind of rumbling around the hallways of my high school
that afternoon as just a rumour .
Hurrying home right after school I cranked on the local rock radio station and they were
already well into Led Zeppelin marathon - mode . Sad , sad news indeed .
My best friend and her sister and brother-in-law actually had tix to see them in Chicago
that fall . She was devastated . Super sux . Bonham was the greatest !
Went to see Black Sabbath / Blue Oyster Cult just 5 nights later at the old Checkerdome
During intermision between bands , " Black Dog " was played over the P.A. The crowd
stood and cheered throughout the whole song . One of those you had to be there moments .
