According to MelodicRock.com, legendary singer Joe Lynn Turner (pictured below; RAINBOW, DEEP PURPLE, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) is rumored to be putting together a new supergroup. This time he is apparently hooking up with drummer Carmine Appice (KING KOBRA, VANILLA FUDGE, OZZY OSBOURNE, BLUE MURDER) and bassist Michael Anthony (CHICKENFOOT, VAN HALEN), with a guitarist yet to be announced. The group plans to write and record new music in the vein of classic '70s rock artists such as FREE, BAD COMPANY, LED ZEPPELIN and DEEP PURPLE.

I think the 'super' in this 'Supergroup', like so many of them, means Superfluous. I mean, once that word described Cream, who were reckoned to be the first supergroup, made up of the hottest players in London at the time.

Now it just seems to refer more to old dudes who got fired from too many bands.

Joe Lynn Turner has quite a good voice, it's just that he's a kinda soul singer who ended up plying his trade in rock.

Well, Carmine is a slamming motherfucker. I would tend to think that he and Mikey could be an explosive rhythm section.

In the Sam autobiography that was pulped before more than a few chapters had snuck out. It was called Red Storm Rising, and it dates from around the mid-2000s. He had to take his ghost writer to court to get it stopped. PM me if you want a copy of the two chapters that got out. I think I still have 'em.

Hagar the Horrible does say, specifically in relation to Mike not standing up to Eddie and Al when they were cutting him out on the reunion tour they did in 2004: 'he's the kind of spineless type'. But he says plenty good stuff about him, too.
