Tell the truth / Black velvet

Every time I hear this song (black velvet by Alannah Myles - that is) I sing the Tell The Truth verses and chorus and it's extremely similar, fits in well. Always wondered which one was a single first...

    Well, it wasn't Dave.

What was your reaction to the similarity back in 1991?

    I thought the same.

I wonder if Dave's co-writer (was it Craig Goldy) had anything to do with the Alannah Myles song ...

It was very obvious then as Black Velvet had been a minor hit.

Dave got away with it by not selling any albums.

    Ha! Sad but true.

I've always thought that too. TTT is Dave's Black Velvet knock-off.
My karma just ran over your dogma.

I know which song I like better, though.

If the world loves a bad guy, then, how 'bout the doubt?

I was first one to get in, I'm the last one out.

Profess to love me babe, then

    Why can't I tell?

All you do is use me babe,

You lyin' to yourself... think it's time.

The little bass run before the verses start are very similar in both songs.

And I haven't looked but was the Black Velvet video done in black & white too? (Although every-fucking--band was going for the b&w, trenchcoat, cowboy boots look back in the early 90's eg. Poison, Bon Jovi, Cinderella...)
