I'm not ashamed to admit Paul is a huge influence for me. His playing and singing on those first two mr big albums is awesome.
My advice to any budding guitarist; learn 'hurry up' and try to get a fifth of Paul's timing and phrasing.
Then you'll know you're on your way to being half good.

Gilbert is a brilliant player and a hell of a nice, humble dude.
At 17 he was striking fear into players like EVH and the rest of the guitar community. fact.
He is a nice guy. And almost as tall as I am, lol. One badass guitarist.
He is one of the greatest guitar players I've ever heard. I used to play 'Take A Walk' with one of my previous bands.. Hard to get, fun to play.
This is quite unfair. For one thing, it is simply obvious that Gilbert's guitar has notes on it that none of mine include. For another, the guy has fingers of the length only an alien could appreciate.
I love that guy. Not exactly innovative, but a well rounded, inspired player. And funny as hell, too. Humble son of a bitch as well. All the best to him.
