"We are part of the, not just the culture, but the geography. Van Halen music goes along with like fries with the burger." - David Lee Roth
Episode 13
The heart is on the left. The blood is red.
Also the 28th anniversary of DLR officially leaving the band. I'd rather focus on the video.
I brought my pencil!!!
What a great feeling, remembering the past and how things always turn out alright.
What ever happened to Vimeo?
How rude!!
"If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”
That's how she rolls now...
What I took away from this episode is that Dave's laugh is not unlike Barney Rubble's. After malt liquor and smokes, of course.
YUH HIH HIH HIH *cough*cough*cough*
LOL! Seeing Barney whip out a pack of Winston's is hilarious!
I'll say this much. The person responsible for digging through the archives for the footage to match Dave's references does an amazing job! (When was the last time, if ever, you saw the Hamm's beer commercial?)
I remember when I was just a little Hambone living in Germany, we used to watch the Flinstones on the AFN (Armed Forces Network), and it was the old black & white ones, and they always ended like this:
I found out later, after we arrived back in America in the late 70's, that the Flinstones was actually prime-time television.
Still, advertising cigarettes on a cartoon was something that struck me as really bizarre, even at an early age.
I dig the Roth Show, and how it's put together.
Another interesting episode, for sure.
That's a great ad! I loved the studio audience laughter in those old cartoons.
Wilma & Betty both died from lung cancer, and Fred & Barney both had heart disease.
Just a coincidence, of course.......

"If the American people had ever known the truth about what we (the BCE) have done to this nation, we would be chased down in the streets and lynched." - Poppy Bush, 1992
You wanna know something really disturbing??
As I was going through puberty, I noticed that Wilma didn't have any eyeballs, and to my way of thinking, that was just two extra holes.
I'm starting to think that I spent an extra two years in therapy just for wanting to skull-fuck Wilma Flinstone.
Cool episode , van halen and drink who would have thought it
And how cool was the frozen vodka thing .
fuck your fucking framing
What I took away was disappointment that as a singer who was noticeably challenged in his vocal performances last year... he's not doing much of anything to improve or even maintain what he "had" going for him vocally. Luckily he only has one show this month... hopefully he'll perform half-assed decent for the fans down under...
Here's a cover idea for Dave's next solo album that nobody will care about...
“The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.”― Stephen Hawking
At his age he should know physical recovery from regular abuse takes a fair amount of time... and dedication.
He's an interesting character and fun to follow. But lately he's been acting too much like a spoiled rich kid with ADHD and too damn much time on his hands. He seems happy surrounded by his new young friends with cameras and the kids in Japan who laugh at his repetitive sarcasm/humor and well worn one-liners. As Larry the Cable Guy once said... Heck fellas I need to surround myself with 10 years olds... they'll laugh at anything!
As the song says it "Beats Working, Baby"... but in Dave's case I think he's better off when he is working.
Hey I have a similar steam locomotive full set from maybe 1954 American Flyer set..oh yeah kinda like that train on the top of the engine. (I have info written down somewhere)
Needs a rewire of the locomotive to tender wiring but it runs and is a full set tracks bridge making pieces the log car will off load logs via track switch and the engine blows smoke from some uranium based electric, more than likely hazardous material inside the engine....cool stuff

Fook! here is that old dog from the old days the train inffront of him is the one I got, 302#.This is the Co that built my train..cool...the majic smok is explained...fook'n..
lol
Because YOU'ALL NEED TO KNOW!!!

LOL. You're all vocal experts now? Dave's been smoking forever. He sounds the same as he always has.
His problem is skipping or forgetting lyrics, and that has nothing to do with smoking or drinking!
Hmmm.. I think drinking may have played a part. Lol.
I think this episode would have been entirely different if Dave wasn't currently in the band.
Surely if you are talking about booze in his life story then if he was honest it's been absolutely crucial. He almost fucked up the biggest gig of their career by getting wasted on booze at the US festival. He could be explaining how coke can help get your head together when you are drunk.
Or how the alcoholism of the Van Halens completely fucked up his career for 20 years. Or how it is that Alex had to give up booze yet Dave could keep his shit together without falling into crippling addiction like Eddie.
Instead we get to find out Dave doesn't know anything about champagne. Don't get me wrong I like that even as a millionaire rock star he knows much more about beer than champagne but it's kind of incongruous to say that hard liquor was more the drink of the audience when it virtually destroyed them.
I'm no vocal expert, but after a decade or so of singing, I know what not to do. I had schooled myself a bit on preserving the pipes. Not speaking excessively is a tip I heard from many. The smoking effects your vocal endurance as you're trying to force wind out of two charcoal briquettes that were once your lungs. The carbonated drinks burn holes in the back of your throat that lead to the split voiced scratchy sound.
I'm not saying Dave's doing more harm now than he did back in the day. I wasn't there then and I ain't there now, but based on his age, what we've heard and info he's shared with us, it is a bit surprising that the upkeep of his instrument doesn't seem to be remotely one of his priorities.
Exactly! That's what I'm saying! With even a reasonable amount of effort, D-Ro could make great strides with his vocals. I can't agree with Northern Girl. Discerning ears can easily tell the difference between 2008 Dave and 2012 Dave. It's not even close.
It's not the voice. It's the delivery...
Dave is trying to come across like he's still "rockstar" with the drinking and smoking. I don't buy it. I think it's all talk. If you are as conscientious about eating and staying as lean as he is, you are not fucking that up with alcohol. Yeah, he's still got the smoking demon, but 1-2 cigs a day isn't such a big deal. I haven't seen his lung x-rays, and I'm sure there's some cumulative damage there; but it can be lessened by quitting or cutting back. I won't pretend to have stats or the desire to find any, so I won't. But if there's no chance for reversal, why bother quitting at all?
Now he's on death's door...
