Love when he does acoustic stuff and sings in his more natural voice.

'One Piece Thermo-Molded Country Plastic Chair' makes it 14 for 14 from VH/DLR in 2012. The more I listen to this tune, the more I like it! Very down-to-earth. Thanks Dave - when you listen to this compared to Haggar's latest radio appearance... well, you understand...

I like the Dave Show and this latest li'tunage is sweet, reminds me of when I used to sit for hrs with my danged old dog and drink beers and watch the day roll by.

I got no issue at all, if the next VH outing (album) with DLR has some mellow treatments with Ed and Al and Wolf could be some great stuff.

    Roth On.

When Dave mentioned he did the color correction on California Girls with Julbo glacier glasses on I could see how that could happen. I've worn Julbo glasses for years. They have been a favorite of mine to wear on the snow and on water. I wear them fishing. They are so comfortable you forget you have them on and something about the lens filtration is nice to where you just tend to leave them on even when they are rated to Category 3+. I only wear goggles if it's super crap weather. I prefer to wear the Julbo glasses if I can. You can pick up a pair at REI for like $50 and the lenses are crystal clear. Nice French lenses. I usually lose them or break them so I buy the cheaper ones which work just fine.

I have one pair of the old school round lens metal framed ones left. They don't make them anymore. I still have my funky white Vaurnet glacier glasses from the 80's. I found those tucked away in some old ski boots. They look like something Willy Wonka would wear. LOL!

Few lyrics I'm not sure of

    Prophets in day (?)
    Need no mountain
    Ain't no mountain 'round here
    Sit quiet by the river
    Life, I'm told
    What river?
    You show me where

Some live life from the bible
    They breathe righteous air
Some learned life in high school
I did not learn life there

I watch the parade go by
    Like most folks 'round here
From my one piece-thermo moulded country plastic chair

    I like the green ones
Not the ones that look like wood
The white ones make me feel tropical
    Basic model's still good

    From Trenton to Tahiti
    From Encino to the 'hood
Those common objects, in the noonday sun
    ....................(?)

    Rare regrets, I actually missed
Couple of dames should have tried to kiss
    No real disappointment persists
    or darkens my door there

    I rule fairly
    over my kingdom
From my one piece-thermo molded country plastic chair

Grab a plate, get yourself a drink
    Sit yourself down here
Come and watch the world drift by
From my one piece-thermo molded country plastic chair

My ears are shot, but it sounds like this to me:

Prophets today need no mountain -
    Ain't no mountain 'round here.
Sit quiet by the river of life, I'm told

Am curious to Dave's thought process to why he has released it the way he has. Its a great tune I would have bought it ( am a fan so i guess thas obvious) but he hasnt released it as a charity single or even just a dave single. It just seems to good a tune to just throw out there .Unless its just a little treat for the fans.
I know he couldnt release material with out ed having a wobble but it he is obviously recording stuff and has his juices flowing ith talk of an aciustic cd in the can etc.
That kinda leads me on to the next point when was it actually recirded any ideas ?

I was thinking the same thing. Wonder what DLR's thought process was for release of this track. Not to take anything away from the tune, which is one of the best songs I've heard this year by ANY recording artist - or to question Dave's motivation or sincerity - but I suppose he was torn between seeming opportunistic by grabbing some headlines at the expense of the hurricane victims, and appeasing Ed (we all know the history there with outside projects). In the end, I suppose he went about it the right way - I would rather hear the song than not (although I would have gladly paid for it if it were a charitable single).

His voice is so beautiful when he's not trying to force a high note. Even though fuck the fans/haters on youtube, Dave does seem to have forced so many high notes this tour when their not needed. I hope once VH comes along again in 2013, Dave's voice will be nice and rested.

Dunno, but looking at where it was recorded from the end titles - Henson studios - I recall an interview with the producer or engineer of ADKOT and when he was asked about why they ended up recording / finishing the album at Henson, he said something like, "Dave doesn't have a studio at his place, but he's always over at Henson recording stuff. He felt comfortable there."

I got the impression from those comments that Dave could have been recording things like this tune before ADKOT, recording stuff pretty regularly - maybe demoing new tunes whenever the need / opportunity arose.

    Prophets today
    Need no mountain
    Ain't no mountains 'round here
    Sit quiet by the river
    Life, I'm told
    What river?
    You show me where

Some live life from the bible
    They breathe righteous air
Some learned life in high school
I did not learn life there

I watch the parade go by
    Like most folks 'round here
From my one piece-thermo moulded country plastic chair

    I like the green ones
Not the ones that look like wood
The white ones make me feel tropical
    Basic model's still good

    From Trenton to Tahiti
    From Encino to the 'hood
Most common object in the noonday sun
    Civilized or un...

    Rare regrets, I actually missed
Couple of dames should have tried to kiss
    No real disappointment persists
    or darkens my door there

    I rule fairly
    over my kingdom
From my one piece-thermo molded country plastic chair

Grab a plate, get yourself a drink
    Sit yourself down here
Come and watch the world drift by
From my one piece-thermo molded country plastic chair

(I assume there's no mistakes now)

Gonna take heat over this but...

...the love train dance video and the chair tune fucking sucked...c'mon folks you know it...maybe ten years ago but not now.

Senior citizen status has crept in and now we're getting all the "rothisms" that seem too much too late.

And really - dedicating that chair song to the victims of Sandy? What a huge consolation to the people affected. Why not put those paramedic skills into action or make a big donation to relief instead?

The cancellation of the second leg said it all - I'd be surprised if there's a Japan or European tour at all. Sorry - don't want to be a hater but stick a fork in it...

Dave has really improved over the years with his video storyboarding and story outlines .

I like the way he was putting videos together back in the 80s and these latest plus the work on the BBQ vid show some skills.

I hope he directs a VH music video soon. I understand there really isn't much money to be grabbed or even exposure thu the use of "The Music Video" not like it was in the MTV early exposure = album sales.

As a documentation of the times and the sounds then at that moment a visual film of a tune will never die.

Or even if they let some others direct it I still like the film of what is happening. Audio alone is great but seeing it like it is live with some story painting around it really is interesting.

    I love this shit.

A video these days is a expensive undertaking more like a gift to the fans than a advertising must.

But I personally have allways been visually stimulated...yeah, yeah ,,,,hey you in the red........there ya go...lol.

But would it have worked 7.933 years ago...that is what I really want to know.

But,.. getting to the point of all the milliseconds thought the expansive universal time that have happened, would it have worked exactly when 10 years ago....?

I say tuesday ten years ago, but not thursday wouldn't have worked at al...I agree with you there ..well, Saturday would have been great 10 years ago...oh nope....I had a softball game at the stewardess training center..busy busy busy that day...so let's get together about this, "when is better" thing,..( this is important) have your people call my people and then we can all agree when it would and wouldn't work...

Yesterday's gone - I look at old footage of Roth in his prime and I can't believe it's the same guy we're seeing today...would have preferred to see this back in the VH hiatus - the DLR band years. I just see an old man now...sorry

Proof that pro-shot 1978 footage exists

I just noticed something interesting watching Daves new episode of the Rothshow (Episode 4). At 11:39 I saw some interesting footage what seemed to be proshot of the 1978 tour (or could be 1979). Is this new footage in the VH world?
