The obscure Eddie Van Halen music thread

Let's start this off with Eddie Van Halen's contribution to Nicolette Larson.
Produced by Ted Templeman in 1978!

I still have my vinyl copy of the Star Fleet Project. It's got some photos of the session on the back cover and on the liner.

I was just a kid when this album came out. Was it popular? Isn't it an EP?

Thomas Dolby, Close But No Cigar. Supposedly Dolby lives close to Howdy Doody Mountain.

    <object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zTwlS8BBjaY?version=3&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zTwlS8BBjaY?version=3&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Also Eastern Bloc, from the same Dolby record:

Can anyone find music from, "The seduction of Gina". I think it was a made for television movie from around 1984 starring Valerie Bertinelli.

Eddie Van Halen played on this track with Black Sabbath's 1994 album "Cross Purposes" but didn't get any credit for it.
Eddie is playing lead guitar for this song!

Dirty water dog which of course was also from the Van Hagar Demo, "I want some Action" that never made it to 5150.

I recently listened to VHIII just for shits and giggles.... I think it is way better than anything Sammy Hagar did.

I used to have a REAL problem with VHIII, but now that David Lee Roth is back in Van Halen, I have allowed myself to listen to some Van Hagar and Cherone stuff that I strictly boycotted.

As long as I ain't putting money in Sammy Hagar's pocket i'll check it out....

Anyways.... VHIII is by no means anything close to a Van Halen record... but if I had to pick a record without Dave in the band... I'll take the Cherone album...

Before anyone thinks I am giving praise to Van Danniels III....
I would like to go on the record...
I could listen to Gary Cherone over Sammy Hagar without cringing atleast... VHIII is better than anything Sammy did with Van Halen....
    There I said it....

    It's an EVH solo record.

I listen to III every now and then and always wonder if WB had second thoughts about putting it out.

I just listened to the whole album for the first time on youtube tonight. I am gonna write an honest review.
Just not here, I may have to go over to the links to avoid a stoning!
Eddie is a much better singer than Sammy! I think HOW MANY SAY I? blows away everything Hagar has ever done.
Yes, there is some great MUSIC itself on some of the Van Hagar records... but Sammy always ruins it for me.
I just listened to VHIII for the first time with honest ears and it's really not that bad....
I am glad I finally got around to checking the album out.... the Roth Army was fucking brutal back in the days of this release....
Even over at the pleasure dome we crucified poor Gary....
Not a bad album.... it's destroys the Van Hagar shit.... minus a handful of songs IMO....

It was always more of loyalty to Dave issue rather than hating Gary Cherone.
David Lee Roth is VAN HALEN, and after the VMA's I put both of my middle fingers up and said "FUCK YOU ED!"
Anyways... Dave is back in the band.... there is no need to boycott this album anymore or keep hating on Eddie or Gary....
I will always hate on Sammy though.... and it's really not just a Dave issue... I literally wanna vomit every time I Sammy Hagar's voice.

It must have been a slap in the face for the REAL Van Halen fans to finally get the band down in Australia with Gary Cherone.
I would have been throwing EGGS on stage back in 98'.
Of course I would have never went anyways if Dave wasn't in the band....

    Nice!
My first Van Halen concert was Van Halen with Autograph.
I didn't go to another Van Halen show until 2007.
SpanishFly Guy got demoted by Vaughn I believe because he attended the 2004 reunion.
Loyality has always been my #1 motivation behind this band.... I always remained on the Dave side of the fence.

Ed should have stayed in a band if this is a solo record ! Horrid in my view. Gary's screaming throughout the song's I have heard make Hagar's voice sound like Paul Rodgers. There isn't 3 good songs on it. Some of the playing is good. Some of it.

He produced a single or two for Zappa's kids. My Mother is a Space Cadet was one of them.
Not sure if he played on any of it though.
He wrote the riff for Evil Eye but he's not playing lead on it.

Ed's solo on Star Fleet is ferocious.

audio is tragic on this. This one is on the That's all Folks boot, which also has 79th and Sunset.

I used to subscribe to Guitar Player magazine in the day. There was an article on Ed and he talked about recording some tracks with Brian May. It was called the Star Fleet Project because the main song was from a british TV show called Star Fleet. We lived in a fairly small ski resort town but we were lucky enough to have a real good old school record store with the drug paraphanalia and the stoner behind the counter and all that. Luck would have it, they had the Star Fleet album and I bought it.

Here it is. The whole Wild Life movie Eddie did the music for.

You can pick out the riffs that turned into tunes but beyond that there's some really tasty clean stuff going on if even for a couple seconds at a time.

Hope you enjoy. Still not released on DVD due to some copyright issues.
