Newer plugins use less CPU power... and why lock yourself into something you can't change on the fly and tailor to the mix later? I can see using outboard gear more for mixing purposes, but HR said recording...
Digital guitar processing pretty much sounds like shit...
I'm using all outboard analog gear and converting that signal to digital at the very end of the chain, and running that into a Mac, optically...
You're correct in that I won't be able to change my basic tone after that, but I wouldn't want to anyway...
I can add EQ or digital effects later after seeing how the basic tones fit in a mix...

Right , but if that basic tone doesn't fit in the mix, no amount of tweaking is gonna fix that. With re-amping you can completely change out the amp head if it's not working to something that is. Plus you have a direct track with the part performed the way you want, that you can then mechanically double if you choose to and add another different amp for more tonal flexibility.
Plus emulations are getting better all the time... HC, Mimic cabs and Recabinet all being pretty much idisputable proof of that. Not just talking about my stuff. There's other demos of HC out where you also wouldn't know it wasn't a real amp unless someone TOLD you. In fact, I can personaly attest that when I post stuff sometimes I'll get comments like "Your Boogie sounds AMAZING" little to they know it was the emulated version...
Well, I disagree...
And I'd never re-amp anything...
There's no life in the digital realm, and it get's you hooked on insanely tweaking your DAW instead of focusing on song...
A little practice and pre-planning and you won't have to tweak much of anything...
Disagree. Tweaking the sounds is part of mixing, and something any decent producer is going to do - so there's no shame in learning how to be better at it. If you only have the option of re-recording it from scratch, you may not play the track as well as you did the first time. Not to mention it's time-consuming and kinda counter-productive. You're sounding less like a purist and more like you have a digital recording phobia, though. It's not the enemy.
No, I record digitally, I just don't record fake digital guitar sounds...
And I CAN tell the difference...
OK then, prove it - of my tunes you've checked out - which one used the Boogie?
I dunno...
They're all way too buzzy and noisy...
It all sounds digital to me...
The only time you've had anything close to decent tone is where you reviewed a single coil, or a stacked single coil...
You're entitled to your opinion, but several dozen comments to the commentary (including from the maker of said software) beg to differ. But you just admitted YOU DON'T KNOW which is which.
Also, there are ways to filer out the "fizz" associated with emulated sounds that makes them sound more realistic. REAL amps are noisy, why would you expect an emulation not to be? That's what they make noise reduction for, in both cases...
Whatever, your work that you post is way overly noisy, buzzy and filled with sub-frequencies...
E your setting your self up for a fall , hope this stuff your recording in your home studio is fucking Stella or some big ass chickens are coming home to roost
fuck your fucking framing
Btw, E - the tracks you sent me a few years back? The guitars sounded.... pretty ratty and processed. Just sayin'.
That was two or three days after I bought my first Behringer V-amp and that's all it was, so naturally it sounded like shit...
I have some nice stuff coming up though...
And I wasn't trying to be negative, just matter of fact constructive criticism...
Dude, step down off the high horse and park the attitude. It's not as if you have room to talk smack here. You should be concered with both. And who isn't interested in songs? Gee, if you're not interested in DAWs what exactly is your recording medium going to be - your iPhone, FFS? A Boombox?
Thanks! And I'd be the first to admit the tracks I was posting when I first started learning PT a couple of years ago weren't all that - but I had no idea what I was doing. DAWs are pretty involved, more so than a lot of people think. Mixing is an art form unto itself, and you have to STUDY what other people are doing to figure out how to make things sound decent. I'm always checking out tutorial videos and educational materials and still I feel like I'm only starting to get my bearings on that end of it.
Don't think E at all realizes the humongous learning curve he's got ahead of him - he posts like he thinks he's going to throw a mic on his cab and amaze us all on the first try... even if he doesn't use emulations, he'll soon understand it's not that simple.
But can't wait to hear it....
Ah the true sign you have no idea what the F you're talking about, and are getting frustrated... the predictable extra question mark...
I'd ask if you're really this dumb, but we all know the answer already... recall:
I'm not worried about Pro Tools or any DAW...
I'm not interested in being a DAW tech,...
Dumbass. How about you quit bitching and start recording?
I have considerable recording experience...
Yet, rather than putting it to use, you're still here bitching.
No, you're bitching which causes you to think I'm bitching...
Hey, what's the best way to share my stuff without using a cloud or youtube ??
