Now the new issue is large capacity magazines and guns that can spray lots of lead each time you pull the trigger and be easily reloaded. The debate is going to be whether the average person needs a 30 plus round magazine for their rifle. Such magazine were invented to give people in the military a lot of firepower full auto if their position was being overran. For a semi-automatic target rifle it's overkill and frankly not needed.

And I might be in favor of cracking down on large capacity magazines, but still...

That won't keep these items off of the black market and out of criminal hands...

How about just like some people can own fully automatic weapons under the Federal Firearms Act of 1934 (I think) but with tight restrictions, only people who pass rigorous background checks including metal health histories can own small caliber or "shortened" cartridge 'assault rifles' with large ammo capacities like the AK, AR-15/M-4, M-14, FAL, etc.?

This is scary as hell. Just got a text while at work from my mother in law. This was at my neices' school district. Different school but miles away from my 3 nieces, who are in kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th grade. Their school was locked down and my sister in law was called to pick them up.
