    Warmoth quits making "Gibson" bodies

    Dammit!

I have always thought about getting a Les Paul Special body from Warmoth. I like the double cutaway (as opposed to a Strat style offset double cutaway), and it would be close to my Hamer Steve Stevens 1. Woulda done the pickup rout to match the SS1, but hard tail, and probably not a Pepto Bismol pink finish. Then I read on another board that Warmoth has quit making Les Paul, LPS, Thunderbird, and V bodies due to "Gibson’s legal demands over potential trademark issues."

Was thinking about an LP bass, too. Oh well. Maybe they'll work out a licensing fee, I'm sure they pay Fender something.

Did a quick Google and only coming up with Fender style bodies...but more Wolfgang style bodies than I thought were available. Hmmm...

    Interesting stuff.

I have tons of friends down here who used to work at Gibson.
I will save my rantings and horror stories for some other thread.

I will just say as long as the asshole runs Gibson, they are gonna do shit that is unpopular.

I just looked at the Warmoth site and am still seeing LP and Explorer-type bodies and necks advertised... AFAIK, Musikraft still makes Gibson-type parts, too...

Yeah, what they already have built is all they have. If you click on "body builder" it comes up with the "due to copyright issues" message. There's three pages of finished LP bodies in the Showcase, but no LPS.

Bummer. I'd say check out Musikraft, but seems they only make a set-neck LP as a standard offering...perhaps as a custom job? Give 'em a call, they do great work!

Don't see anything on Musikraft I like. Not sure I want to spend custom money to just knock around the house.

Like I said, I wanted it like my SS1, or even the old Scott Ian Jackson double cutaway. I would have considered the Ibanez AX (think that's what they were) but they don't make 'em any more...

Don't mind a bolt on, and I'd rather have it in "Fender" scale.

Going to Guitarget in the morning. Not necessarily to spend money, but I'll have some on me just in case. Haven't bought a guitar since I got my SS1 in '95, kinda got the itch. I could always spend the money on Jeep parts I guess.
