    Wailing guitar hammer-fest

Scott Mishoe appeared on a compilation series called Guitar on the Edge which was an "audio magazine" you could get at your guitar dealer shops in the early 90's for 5 or 6 bucks. What do you guys think of this? Is it overkill? I think it rips. In fact I got tendonitis just listening to it.

Anybody remember the Guitar on the Edge CD series?
It came from the brother of the Shrapnel label owner, although the quality of the recordings was much better.

Ha! Neil Zaza. I met him a few years back when he was pushing those shitty Hamer guitars. Gawd, he was an asshole.

Chops for days... I too hear a Nuno influence. His tapping is reeeeeeeally cleanly executed though, points for that! It's cool, but kinda overkill... I can see a non-guitarded person glazing over about 30-45 seconds in...

It's the clean execution that puts me to sleep. Guys like this lacked wreckless abandon. Give me a "So this Is Love" type solo over this any day. I wanna hear gassed notes and missed frets and buzzes and crackles and pops!

As far as this type of instrumentation goes, I prefer Paul Gilbert and Nuno because they know how to roll around in the dirt a little with their attack. More so Nuno than Paul.

It shows a great deal of dedication to get those type of runs that flawless, which I respect as a player, but agree a lot of it sounds way soulless. I prefer "seat of the pants" players with a technical vibe... someone like Lynch could destroy the entire shred output of that tune in a 16-bar solo, y'know? The phrasing's more unique, less gymnastic...

Ne Meither. Rick from Cheap Trick played'em. Steve Stevens, too. Can't say as though I've ever even seen one in a store. Odd.

I remember growing up the ones in the 80s kicked ass, but were way expensive. The newer ones I've tried I didn't dig all that much. Also curious to hear the Krust's take on them articulated beyond "shitty" though...?

Yeah, I hear ya and I can appreciate the dedication factor too, but it's just too damn perfect. Comparatively speaking, I want to see brush strokes, not photo-realism when it comes to decent illustration.

Now you're talking! I've heard your playing J. You know how to rip shit up and still play with feeling. I didn't get an ounce of feeling from the clip.

I noticed Darren Householder is named on the cover. Remember when we were talking about Love Hate last week? He fits the speed burner bill alright.
