    Namm 2013

So doing the NAMM hang with the FU/Boogie Bodies/D-Tuna gang again. Fun stuff, good times. Meeting cool people (one of Ed's former techs among them), and I took the Bomber guitar and everyone who's played it ("rock stars" included) have loved it. Pretty stoked.

Here's from my first pass through the EVH booth:

Looking at these, I came to the sudden realization that I much prefer tiger-stripe maple grain over burl.

Thanks for posting this stuff. Really great for those of us who cannot make it. I have at least one friend from Gnashville who is out there right now.

That Bomber reminds me of something Lynch would play. Great guitar!

In the old days if you had that in a rehearsal room for a couple of months it would be yellow-brown from the cigarette smoke.

    I had not noticed that.

I still have not actually had the chance to play through any of the EVH amps.

    Someday......

I really dig the v1 Frankie guitar....has the EVH logo on the headstock. I just liked the black/white color scheme.

Ed was the guitarist who made me realize I only needed a volume control and one pickup. He also was the guitarist that made me realize that I could work on my own guitars, that I did not have to just use them as they were from the factory.....

Ed made me hate tone knobs and front pickups. Even in my EVH Music Man lol.

Another one of those classic genius posts, sure to generate responses. You log on the next day to see what your witty gem has produced to find no one gets it and 2 knotheads want to stick their dicks in it... Well played, sir!!

Checked out the new Kempler amp... it seems to me like a hardware version of Head Case in that it allows you to sample any mic'd amp and save the tone as a preset (that you can then further manipulate). Sounded pretty cool.

I still like the Bumblebee best.

Yeah the Premiere Guitar site has an extremely thorough photo gallery for each day.....Lotta cool pix of groovy stuff!

I still have not played through any of the Krank stuff either. But then, over the past 6-7 years I have not bothered to go check out new stuff like I did back in the day.

    One of these days.....

    OooOOoOooooo...Rockstar....what an ass!!! Me drools...

Hemp cone on the new Eminence Patriot speaker. Good to see such a durable fiber entering the supply chain for companies to use in the music industry.

I've always had great luck with professional sound quality speakers. They hold up quite well. Car speakers are what I destroy.

    3 observations:

Competition is extremely fierce. There are so many luthiers producing guitars, I can't fucking know 1/1000th of them.

Same with the amps. EVERYONE has a boutique amp to shove off on everyone.

AND...everyone has some kind of Doctor Vomit FX pedal of some kind....and the boutique pedal prices are just as overpriced as the amps are....

In a way it is nice. But I have my preferences, and they do not include most of these start up companies' guitars/amps/FX.

If you are a small manufacturer you have to go the boutique route to hopefully make any money. I think right now there are so many great sounding amps from established manufactures. Maybe in the past a custom or boutique amp had the edge. Maybe still if you are after a real full classic glassy tone but for the distorted stuff there are so many good amps out from companies that have and will be around.

The thing is you can have a company like Peavey custom make you an amp in their custom shop. If you want a classic 30 combo with a 15 inch speaker they will make one for you. The price will be competitive to what a smaller company could do it for but Peavey will be around in five years and they have great customer service. You can get ahold of a real human being and they know their stuff when you talk to them. If you need work done on it they can tell you where your local repair/service center is.

Looking at all these gives my the usual gimme gimme gimme vibe .
I've played on a couple of wolf gangs at our local guitar shop ( I know the guy I get to road text some of his stuff ) though not high end ones to be honest.
I have come to the conclusion if i was gonna spunk serious money at an evh style guitar I wanna bumble bee or a Frankenstrat .
    fuck your fucking framing

If it's a true Pawn Shop guitar it needs to have a tainted past and smell like cigarettes, beer, and puke. The case will have a weird musty smell and maybe some extra cat hair in it.

Met tons of great people, partied with and like rock stars, yadda yadda... it was great getting to pick Ed's former tech's brain. Probably would've gotten to meet Wolf, had I not got stuck in traffic on the way in Friday.

    Better shot of the Kemper...

This is from the Toto set...

Let's give the drummers some love..

They better cost under 100 bucks if they are going to sell a cheap line of shitty guitars then.....the finishes look cool in a cheezy kinda way, though...

I made multiple passes through the Fender exhibit and those did not jump out at me...walked right by 'em...lol

    THIS is kinda cool...

    H.R. Geiger-like....the hardware is appropriate.

Yeah Nitro....my first guitar was a 40-dollar pawn-shop special. Only reason I bought it was it looked nicer than the others.
Classic pawn shop....run by two old Jewish shopkeepers, lol.

They got to have a layer of dust on 'em, and they have to have one of those cheap cardboard guitar cases that was made for a different shaped guitar.

Our next door neighbor was a jewish pawn broker LOL! I remember the oldest son was always bringing these cool amps, guns, and stuff home. I would ask if he bought it and he would go no, these came into the shop and I'm just going to play with them a bit before we sell them. I never quite got it but he sure brought some cool shit home. We would go fishing with the dad all the time and he had a huge wad of bills in his hip pocket. Of course it was his money in case a deal came up but I thought he was just rich. It must be a Jewish thing because Jewish dads all seem to have the big wad of bills in their pocket. I was watching Gene Simmons family jewels and Gene whipped out the big wad of cash. LOL! The thing is, I wanted a wad of bills in my pocket like that when I grew up. There is just something cool about taking out a big wad a cash and peeling the bills off of it. Man. You can't do that with a debit card.
