Certainly for Cavs basketball...if he spurns a contract though...you can bet...this would be his longest season in NBA history...

I personally don't think it will ever happen, And if it does Lebron would be on the level of Uncle Scum in terms of hatred in the NEOhio.

    Well...I don't think he's leaving this year...

but the 5 year deal will end when he's what...26?

Of course...the Cavs will still be able to give them the most money...by a longshot...

Do you think he would at least be able to give us 1 championship during those Five years?, That In My Opinion would really make him stay here. My Guess Is Yes.

    Crennel won’t rule out Vinny
Written by Steve Doerschuk REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER
    Tuesday, 20 June 2006

BEREA - The Browns sang Sunday before their last big offseason break. They huddled at the end of the final minicamp practice and performed “Happy Birthday” for Romeo Crennel.

“He wouldn’t tell us how old he is,” said quarterback Charlie Frye, a tenor.

Crennel turned 59 Sunday. He is an older head coach under whom graying players do not suffer age discrimination, evidenced by his mature New England defenses, not to mention his Browns nose tackle, 38-year-old Ted Washington.

Vinny Testaverde Crennel isn’t saying so, but he is hardly dousing speculation the Browns are thinking about signing 42-year-old quarterback Vinny Testaverde.

The team has no experienced backup for 24-year-old starter-elect Frye. Ken Dorsey, 25, was 1-6 with a 62.4 passer rating in a trial as a 49ers starter in 2004. Derek Anderson, 22, didn’t take a snap as a 2005 rookie.

Crennel touched on the possibility of signing Testaverde.

“I’ve got a guy in mind that knows the system,” Crennel said. “He might be a little bit older than I am.”

It was obvious Crennel was talking about Testaverde, who had a big year with the Jets (29 TDs, seven interceptions) when Crennel was a coach with that team in 1998. Crennel stayed playful but provocative as he explained how long it would take Testaverde to plug in to a Browns role.

“He could come in on Friday and, boom, he’d be good to go on Sunday,” Crennel said.

Testaverde started four straight games and played extensively in another for an unstable Jets team last year. His only win was 14-12 against Tampa Bay, the team that made him a No. 1 pick in 1987.

His last extended action came at Denver on Nov. 20, when he went 15-of-25 for 152 yards. He threw two interceptions in a 27-0 loss.

Crennel is weighing whether Testaverde might give the improving Browns a better chance to win than Dorsey or Anderson if anything happens to Frye. Might Testaverde be interested in returning to Cleveland, where he started 31 games from 1993-95?

“I have no idea,” Crennel said. “He might tell me, ‘Go take a swim.’ I don’t know because I haven’t spoken with him.”

Dorsey was the No. 2 quarterback in Sunday’s final minicamp practice. He sounded authoritative as he ran a two-minute drill. He put some short passes on the money to Lee Suggs, a candidate for the third-down back role.

“At this time, Ken is still learning the system,” Crennel said. “I think we’ve got to get to training camp to see what he looks like there.”

Former Browns Head Coach Sam Rutigliano thinks Brian Sipe, who became NFL MVP as an eighth-year pro, might have developed sooner with a mentor type to guide him.

“This Browns team seems to have enough things going for it that, now, you’re not dreaming to think about winning,” Rutigliano said after practice. “The only thing I see next is to put somebody in the bullpen who can help Charlie on the field.”

Frye has received some support and instruction from Bernie Kosar, who hasn’t played for years. Testaverde, who was born 12 days after Kosar, has the advantage of having been plugged in to the “now.”

In 2004, he started 15 games and threw for 3,532 yards for Bill Parcells’ Cowboys, whose offensive coordinator was Mo Carthon, is in his second year as Cleveland’s coordinator.

Frye isn’t clamoring for a mentor. He says he spends much of his life breaking down film with position coach Rip Scherer, with Carthon sometimes sitting in. He seems jazzed about the revised supporting cast, featuring new center LeCharles Bentley.

“LeCharles was an honor-roll guy in high school,” Frye said. “He knows defenses. He’s gonna be a big help to me.

“The biggest help is, during games, he’ll be able to help identifying defensive fronts.

“He’s picked up the offense real fast.”

You know I'm getting real sick of people asuming that baltimore will be good just because they have steve McNair, IMO the Browns are now better than them, and the Ravens have an even worse O-Line (If you can believe it.), than even the browns. Anyone else agree?

    , you bastard.

So who do you think will get the wildcard spot out of the north (Since the Steelers will get the title.), I'm thinking the Bungels will get it, followed by the Browns with an 8-8 record, and I don't think the Ravens have a shot, regardless if they have McNair or not.

    Oh, and Muck Fichigan .

    Edwards sucks...

and I really...really think the Bengals are going to have a letdown this year...

we shall see though...but rarely does a team come off an offseason like theirs...

    ready to win a division...

The North may not get a wildcard slot this year...

I don't know, The steelers looked like they had a less than stellar offseason, (Draft and such.), I didn't hear anything about the bungles, You cannot deny the browns were probably the best improved in the offseason.

You know who I am picking for the suprise team of next year, Call me an idiot, BUT, The Jaxsonville Jags. look like the team that looks like a darkhorse.

LeBron would get to possibly be an Art Modell figure If he goes into another city like New York or Chicago, and then is successful. Can you imagine the hate mail he would get? Death threats? It's like the equivlant of giving away a championship, and you know how many times cleveland has given that up .

    Cavaliers still waiting on LeBron
    Story Tools:

    Associated Press
    Posted: 4 hours ago

CLEVELAND (AP) - LeBron James has the Cleveland Cavaliers waiting and their fans wondering.

James has yet to announce if he's going to accept the club's maximum contract extension, a five-year offer worth about $80 million. Although James isn't eligible for free agency until after next season, his silence - he received the offer on July 1 - has led to speculation that he has other plans.

Adding to Cleveland fans' anxiety is that the agents for Miami's Dwyane Wade, Denver's Carmelo Anthony and Toronto's Chris Bosh have told media outlets that their clients have accepted and intend to sign deals with those clubs identical to the one the Cavaliers offered James.

James was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 draft class that included Anthony, Wade and Bosh.

James' agent, Leon Rose, met with the Cavaliers before family commitments kept him away for the holiday weekend. He has not returned phone or e-mail messages.

The contract extension isn't the only thing keeping James busy this summer. He committed to playing for Team USA in the FIBA World Championships and must report to training camp in Las Vegas later this month.

NBA rules prohibit the Cavaliers from commenting on their negotiations with James, who can sign anytime between July 12 and Oct. 1. While waiting for the All-Star forward's decision, the club has not reached agreement with any free agents.

General manager Danny Ferry said last week that his top priority after James' contract is re-signing restricted free agent forward Drew Gooden. The club has had preliminary talks with Gooden's agent, Calvin Andrews.

LeBron says he will sign five-year extension with Cavaliers
    July 8, 2006
    CBS SportsLine.com wire reports

CLEVELAND -- LeBron James won't be leaving home anytime soon.

Cleveland's All-Star forward accepted a five-year contract extension worth about $80 million from the Cavaliers on Saturday, a huge relief for the rising team and its fretting fans who worried he might be planning an escape.

James, who in three seasons as a pro has turned the Cavaliers from doormats into NBA title contenders, will sign the deal once the league's moratorium ends Wednesday, said his agent Leon Rose.

"I am very excited and happy to be re-signing with the Cavaliers. Staying in Cleveland ... provides me with the unique opportunity to continue to play in front of my family, friends and fans," James said in a statement released by his publicist. "I look forward to working toward bringing a championship to our great fans and the city of Cleveland."

Unlike fellow 2003 NBA Draft classmate Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat, James waited a week before announcing his intention to take the deal, a delay that had Cleveland fans, who have been burned by broken promises before, fearing the worst.

Ever the showman, James let the drama build before agreeing to a deal that will start after the 2007 season and run through 2012-13.

James will make $5.8 million next season, the final year on his rookie contract. The exact amount of James' extension won't be known until later this summer when the league determines the salary cap for next season.

James, who wasn't eligible for restricted free-agency until after next season, has said for months that he loves playing in Cleveland and wants to help the Cavaliers win their first NBA championship.

James was the final member of the '03 draft class to accept the extension. Wade, Denver's Carmelo Anthony and Toronto's Chris Bosh all earlier announced their intent to sign.

Almost from the moment the club selected him with the No. 1 overall pick three years ago, insecure Cleveland fans have worried about a day when James would bolt for a bigger paycheck and brighter spotlight in a bigger market such as New York, Los Angeles or Chicago.

It didn't help that James often wears a New York Yankees baseball cap, a fashion accessory looked upon as blasphemous in Northeast Ohio.

    CAVALIERS
Top picks Brown, Gibson sign deals
    Saturday, July 08, 2006
    Branson Wright
    Plain Dealer Reporter
While the Cavaliers wait for word from LeBron James on the team's offer of a contract extension worth about $80 million over five years, they have made progress on another front.

The Cavs announced Friday that first-round pick Shannon Brown and second-round pick Daniel Gibson have signed contracts. Brown, a guard from Michigan State who was the 25th overall pick, signed a four-year deal worth about $5.5 million. Gibson, a point guard from Texas, signed a two-year deal for about $800,000. Only the first two years of Brown's contract are guaranteed.

Meanwhile, the Cavs and their fans are anxiously awaiting word from James.

He cannot sign the extension until Wednesday because of league rules but he can make his intentions known. Two other prominent members of the 2003 draft class, Denver's Carmelo Anthony and Miami's Dwyane Wade, have said they intend to sign extensions with their teams.

If James does not sign, he will become a restricted free agent next summer. Meanwhile, the Cavs will begin serious discussions with agent Calvin Andrews in Las Vegas this weekend about his client, restricted free agent Drew Gooden. The power forward averaged 10.7 points and 8.4 rebounds last season.

While waiting for James and between discussions about Gooden, the Cavs have continued to talk with agent Mark Bartelstein. He represents forwards Aaron Williams, Devean George, point guard Jannero Pargo and power forward Darius Songaila.

"We're talking about a bunch of things," Bartelstein said. "We'll just continue to work and see where it all goes."

    Bartelstein also represents Brown.

In Las Vegas Summer League action on Friday, the Cavs fell, 95-71, to the New York Knicks. Sasha Pavlovic led the Cavs with 20 points, Gibson had eight points, four rebounds and four assists. Brown had five points and one assist.

It doesn't say he did or didn't (in that Plain Dealer post); it says they're still WAITING. Is he stalling for more money or is that Jay-Z & the Nets rumor true?

James has the Cavs building that franchise around him, so he'll take it. Then again, I don't know...I thought Big Ben would take the $48 mill.

You have to figure he'll get at least one. I keep wondering who were going to bring in. Poj. How are the rookies we brought in this year looking?

Of course it is funny to see ESPN diss cleveland every chance they seem to get, Just because the city isn't big in the nielsen market . Of course If they were smart, they would realize that Cleveland isn't the only city who likes the cavs, Akron, Canton, Columbus, Youngstown, Toldeo, Fuck Even parts of Pittsbugh, and West Viriginia have Cavs fan, When you add that up, its a pretty big market.

Sorry I didn't mean to sound like one of those unsatisfied clevelanders, I'm just happy ESPN will Shut up about it for another couple of years .

you can leave Toledo off that list. Toledo acts like they are a suburb of Detroit. i was up there the week of the playoffs, and a lot of places had "Go Pistons" signs in their windows. a couple people gave me (good-natured) shit about my Cavs hat, too.

even when the Tigers suck (which is more often than not), Toledo rallies behind them. and don't even get me started on the Lions...my cousins go to the Thanksgiving Day game every year.

i'll have to look, but i think the cable system up there carries Fox Sports Detroit instead of Fox Sports Ohio.

    That's been historic...

I remember being there when I was a kid...visiting some of my pop's friends...and getting a lesson on Detroit sports...
