Browns actually looked like an NFL team today. not a GOOD NFL team, mind you.
blew some opportunities in the 2nd half to put the Bengals away and a bunch of chances in OT.

I don't like Eric Mangini...they should have hired a better coach...
"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."
This is always a sad day for me...
The Indians...good or bad...stop playing...
Wedge and his cronies won't be missed...but the Indians will be. Already looking forward to next year...

I think they have some promise for next season. so much will depend on getting the right guy in the dugout. they need some more starting pitching, but I don't know where it will come from. perhaps they'll spend a nickel or two on one rotation guy.
they've added a ton of young arms, but will any of them be ready for next year? (outside of Masterson, of course). I'm trying to build a rotation in my head right now and struggling.
Masterson, Westbrook, Laffey, ????? (we've seen a lot of Sowers, and Huff, but are they really quality big league starters?) Carrasco? he certainly didn't look ready yet. Rondon? hell, even one of my three locks is really a question mark. until Jake actually shows he's healthy, it's hard to count on the guy.
I didn't mention Carmona yet for a reason....
but I do like the lineup.. the new guy will probably be smart enough to slide Grady down to 3 or 4.
Big Dawg sues Electronic Arts...
Browns superfan John 'Big Dawg' Thompson's case against game maker likely to be resolved
By Joe Guillen, The Plain Dealer
October 05, 2009
A lawsuit between John "Big Dawg" Thompson, the dog mask-wearing, bone-wielding Browns fan, and Electronic Arts, Inc., maker of the "Madden NFL" video game series, is likely to be resolved, a lawyer for the fan said on Friday.
A case management conference scheduled last Friday was cancelled because the case is being dismissed, said Alan Parker, a lawyer representing Thompson. Parker said the dismissal terms are confidential.
Thompson, of Cleveland, was happy the case is over, said Parker, who wouldn't comment further on the super-fan's reaction to the outcome.
Thompson sued Electronic Arts in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court after he found out the "Madden NFL 09" video game released last year, featured a fan at Cleveland Browns Stadium who resembles the costume he had been wearing to Browns games for the last 25 years. The case was transferred to U.S. District Court in August.
In the video game, the portrayal of the "Cleveland Browns Stadium includes animated fans that features a character dressed unmistakably as Big Dawg, with a distinctive pop-eyed and heavily jowled dog-face mask and orange hard hat," reads the complaint Thompson's lawyer filed.
Parker said the video game manufacturer never asked Thompson's permission to use the character. As part of the suit, Thompson asked for a minimum of $25,000 and that Electronic Arts no longer use his image.
A publicist for EA Sports, of Redwood City, Calif., could not be reached on Friday.
Thompson's "Big Dawg" character -- integrated into his legal name -- has become a fixture at Browns home games, according to court documents. Thompson has appeared in character in publication, commercials and TV broadcasts. "Big Dawg" also was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame's inaugural class of its Hall of Fans in 1999, the lawsuit says.
Parker said Thompson's character appeared in "Madden" games going back to 2005.
The case is expected to be dismissed in the next three weeks, he said.
didn't that fat bastard get a DUI recently, or am I thinking of someone else?
I much prefer John Adams for my Cleveland fan icon
you're right. one of the comments on the PD article was "does he need money for the DUI case?"
Carmona is done...
the enigma in his stats was his cy young-worthy season...not the other way around.
Who knows...perhaps a good pitching and bullpen coach could fix him...but right now...he throws balls and meat...
IMO, this team is similarly set up to the team in 1993. They need to go out and find the Dennis Martinez, Orel Hershiser and Eddie Murray...IE...two veteran pitchers and a veteran bat...of course...on the cheap...
Perhaps you bring a guy in like Nomar...who can play multiple positions...although not crazy about his injury issues. I'd love a guy like Chone Figgans...but he'll cost too much. DeRosa is out there again as well. Garrett Anderson is out there, as well as Johnny Damon and even Bay, although he'll be too costly. Bobby Abreu is available, and would be perfect, but may be too costly. Hell, Aubrey Huff would be alright, as would even Ken Griffey...
Pitching-wise, a guy like Pettitte would be alright...players like that...that may sign a cheaper deal to be a front-end guy of a young staff...that can teach the team the ropes. Personally...as many old Yankees as possible...to be honest...
None of these names are perfect...but you get my point...cheap guys who could bring ups in a part-time roll...
well Shapiro knows how to find cheap guys...
actually, I'm fine with that as long as the new manager doesn't feel compelled to play them once it's clear to all that they don't have it anymore and are only taking at-bats away from the younger guys.
Braylon Edwards to the Jets
i am no raging Browns fan, but good riddance.
he thinks the fans here are rough, wait till he starts dropping catches in NY.
He will do good with the Jets, they have a QB, RB, and OL.
Now its the Cavs turn. Not gonna hold my breath.
Heard that the Horse show throwing championships may come to Cleveland.
good riddance, stone hands!
No surprise on my front...been saying it all along...that Bobby Valentine is a top candidate for the Indians job. IMO...it wouldn't be the best hire...but it would be a good one.
I still think Farrell is choice #1...even though most are saying he's staying.
I saw that Shapiro wants to make the hire before the WS ends.
i like the way these commentators are all saying "these are supposed to be professional football teams."
I know the blinded Quinn fans will be all over Anderson, but these fuckin' receivers have dropped at least 5 balls today. I thought getting rid of Edwards would help, but the rest of the guys have gotten worse. Robert Royal should be shot.
BROWNS WIN! BROWNS WIN!
(oh yeah, they still suck)
<a href="http://photobucket.com/images/who%20dey" target="_blank"><img src="http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u6/mistirbroughton/bengals.jpg" border="0" alt="Who Dey!!! Pictures, Images and Photos"/></a>
There really wasn't much other choice.
Cowher went over to Lerner and said his heart was into it, so he was out.
Pioli was interviewed and his intent was to bring in McDaniels and Cassell, and that wasn't exactly music to Randy's ears
Shanahan wants to collect the rest of his contract, so that choice was a no.
Frankly, if Mangini doesn't work out in 3 year (I'm assuming that like every Browns coach before, he will not), I'd really like to see them try for Cowher one last time, maybe not a s HC but moreso a Team President like Parcells or if Marty Schottenheimer would be interested in doing something similiar if he's not too old.
Still waiting for a relevant Browns Team
Indians hire Manny Acta. Don't really know what to think about that one. He had a shitty record in DC, but they actually have LESS talent than the Tribe. I need to call my best friend from college who lives in DC now, to see what he thinks about this guy.
Cavs get it started for real with the Celts tomorrow night.
this just in...the Browns still suck!
Hey, isn't MLB's economic system great !!!
Perfect example: Two Indians' salary dumps meet in Game One of the World Series....
Eat Us And Smile - The Originals
"I have a very belligerent enthusiasm or an enthusiastic belligerence. I’m an intellectual slut." - David Lee Roth
"We are part of the, not just the culture, but the geography. Van Halen music goes along with like fries with the burger." - David Lee Roth
if you ever needed proof of how broken MLB is, this postseason offers it up for you.
all of the final 4 spent over $100 million.
I'm as much of a capitalist as anyone, but this shouldn't be confused with a free market situation. These are franchises under one umbrella. The McDonald's on 10th Street isn't competing with the McDonald's on 22nd Street. It's supposed to be competing with the Burger King on 10th Street. The Yankees don't "win" if they run all of the other teams out of business. They are stuck with nobody else to play against. It's a big Lose-Lose.
Bud Selig are you awake???
on top of that, you've got baseball in NY and Philly in NOVEMBER!!
so the Browns fire Kokinis, and will probably pay his contract in full.
how the fuck are they going to get anyone else to take the GM gig if they're willing to fire someone eight games in?
Listen...I liken a guy like Kosar to a guy like Mario Lemieux in Pittsburgh...
Lemieux loved the city...loved the Penguins...and was able to (manipulate) shape the league a bit...
Now...Kosar loves the Browns...has wanted a piece of this team for ages...and would do whatever it takes...
Of course...Lemieux is the owner...so there are no restraints there...
Kosar would need room...and to hire a coach...
Mangini blows...and there were other choices...
It's not always the names that make a difference...
i dunno. on their weekly Browns show, Sam Rutigliano and the PD's Tony Grossi said they don't think Kosar is ready, that he's weak on the personnel side of things.
the News-Herald claims Ernie Accorsi is the new GM, with Kosar being groomed for the gig.
Last edited by twonabomber; 11-03-2009 at 05:18 AM.
and now the PD has contacted Accorsi and he says he's happy being retired.
Kosar sounds great and all. Gives the people what they want, but I think there's been too much of that shit in Cleveland, anyway. But what they really need is someone who knows what the fuck he's doing. Get a guy with a proven track record and put him in charge of the whole fuckin' football team. He gets to hire and fire the coach, hire and fire personnel guys. Give him 10 years and get the fuck out of the way. The team needs stability more than anything; not knee-jerk reactions
Lerner admits he doesn't know what he's doing, so get out of it and just sign the checks. Having a coach and GM who both report to him never made any sense.
Yeah...fucking hiring Mangini...and having that piece of shit hire the GM is fucking insane...then watching them ignore each other like they fucked each other's wives is...well...
a good reason to fire both...
Mangini sucks...
Go Shoreman!!!
Kicked the Shit out of Maumee...
Way to stack the line you fucking morons...
latest rumor points to Mike Holmgren talking with Lerner about becoming "football czar", among a few other names.
I very much like this direction of thinking. let's see what materializes. Lerner does get a head start in talking to some of the bigger names who are out of the game right now.
I'm not sure about Holmgren. He just seems a bit overrated to
me. Ron Wolf maybe, but after the way Carmen Policy handled him back in the day, that won't be happening. Mangini has to go.
I do wonder though, that if the Browns actually put together a package of stability to show Cowher, and made some smart moves prior to that conversation...
But I think cowher may be looking at Carolina and Washington. As his next job...
Hey, I hear Matt Millen is available.
that sounds fuckin' awesome.
maybe you hire him as a consultant, and do the opposite like George Costanza
no Cavs talk here lately, but after the sky-is-falling 0-2 start, Cavs have won 7 of 8, including a back-to-back on the road over Orlando and Miami. They look like they are trying to make it work without Delonte West, who is really an underrated key piece to the team. but with the addition of Parker and a healthy Boobie Gibson, they are making due.
the depth seems to be showing with the emergence of JJ Hickson.
we'll see how it shakes out. the playoffs is all that matters for this team.
