    Mr. Gilbert--

Know this. As long as you own the Cavaliers, I'm following them. I don't fucking care if the Cavs lose 70 games this year...

I don't think the Cavs will be able to sign any big names in the future, because LeBron likely controls that shit on the inner-circle...I really believe that...

But who cares...finally...FUCKING FINALLY...someone comes out and says it like it is.

He's a solid point, but is that what they need? The rockets are supposedly going to match anyways...

Rumor has it that LeBron has bought space for a full page ad in the Cleveland Plain Dealer for tomorrow...

Oh shit, this is going to be fucking fantastic...

Funny thing is, had the fucker taken this approach about two months ago, things could have been different...

I'd be surprised if the Plain Dealer sells a paper tomorrow...

Or quite the opposite...remember that line in the Rutles (the Monty Python/SNL parody film about the Beatles) when their fans were angry over a member's blasphemous statements and started throwing their albums on bonfires?
"People were buying them just to burn them."

I don't understand why Lebron couldn't have come clean sooner about the move and given the Cavs an opportunity to land anothe FA?

It's not like there was any doubt looking at the events after the fact. He owed the city that much.

No way he threw the series against Boston on purpose. But, his head was already thinking about the TV special and so on, so the Cavs had no chance.

Bizarre how he couldn't see the importance of winning verus concentrating on his personal propaganda campaign.

It says so much about the character or lack therof of the NBA players. In what universe does a professional sports league with a global marketing perspective allow a team to move from Vancouver to Memphis?

I don't know how you fix the league - maybe it is broken for good. At least there won't be 6,000 fans at Miami games this year. Oh, but official attendance was likely close to 15,000. Yeah sure.

You should see some of the inflated attendance figures for Marlins games. You could roll bowling balls in the stands, and not hit anyone. Mysteriously, it gets reported that 3,000 people showed up. And let's not forget that no-hitter pitched by Roy Halliday from earlier in the season. The Marlins put the remaining tickets on sale a few days after the game, and added them in the official attendance figures! For a game we lost!

I can't believe MLB is allowing them to do that, Craig. The part about adding it to the "official" attendance. So, if I look up the game today it'll read for example 19,478. And, then if I check 2 months from now it'll be 26,002.

One day they will say it was a sellout and by the footage of the game you can tell that it was a small crowd. I believe I posted the attendance in another post but I don't recall if it was here or at my place.

The initially reported attendance (the following day) was 25,086. Considering we only drew 19,000 for inter-league play against Tampa, who had the best record in baseball at that time, you really have to wonder. Bear in mind that the tickets will remain on sale until the end of the season, so it will be interesting to see how this pans out in the year end figures.

In addition, check out this chart from ESPN. We are second from the bottom. There have been rumors of Marlin's attendance figures being manipulated for years now, as part of getting the new ball park built. We can't draw flies, but all of a sudden attendance has increased ?

    Look at this:

    http://espn.go.com/nba/attendance

So Miami had an avg attendance of 17,730 per game. That's about 11,000 inflated and I am not exagerrating. Look at any highlight from last year. Just look at the empty seats! No way that Arena is anywhere near half full.

Grizzlies at 13,485...which means about 5,000 paying customers lol

Solid point. The populace is notorious for not showing up, and rather than gifting the tickets, they simply throw them away. I can't imagine that kind of disposable income, let alone purchasing tickets but finding it an inconvenience to bother attending.

Great article at yahoo sports by one of the better NBA columnists going today, Adrian Wojnarwoski. It does appear that there has been a lot more to the LeBron story than meets the eye, and I'm talking about over his entire career, not over the past six weeks. Good stuff...and I'm serious.

LeBron is supposedly buying Pat Riley's old place...to the tune of 50 million.

It turns out that the reports on July 7th...were true. LeBron did make an offer, and the house he's rumored to be buying is the very same one mentioned prior to his announcement...

what a fucking piece of trash...

    from Terry Pluto's column:

Former Cavalier Melvin Turpin died last week of what the Fayette County (Ky.) corner's office described as a "self-inflicted gunshot wound." It's a sad ending for Turpin, who played with the Cavs from 1984 to '87. His NBA career lasted five years, ending with Washington in 1990. He averaged 8.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and shot 52 percent. Turpin was 49.

I don't want to start a new thread for this, but thought I would post this here:

Speaking about the state of basketball in this thread it is no great leap to make the comparisons to other sports.

I have always admired hockey players in general because they are largely without attitude (Messier excluded).

Today is a case in point. I was enjoying an afternoon in my backyard on the deck when what should I see in the backyard of my next door neighbour???

Nothing less that the Stanley Cup itself!!!! I was content to admire from afar when Andrew Ladd makes his way to my fence and asks if we want a picture with it.

Since I won't be making any free agent signing with an NHL team soon, I did decide to touch it.

Funniest moment was when my son asked him where the Vancouver Canucks names were on the Cup.

Andrew was quick...perhaps a little too quick to tell him that they weren't there.

I had my son's back though telling LAdd:

    "This is their year, son"

Anyways, what a great guy. Only in hockey.

But at least they have great sports fans. When I lived there in 1997, I got to watch the celebrations of the people as the Marlins won the World Series, the same fans that didn't sell out a game until the 2nd Round of the playoffs.

Oh wait, I'm sorry, they DID sell out some games before that. If the Mets or Yankees were in town. It was a home crowd for the New York teams.

Yes, that Game 7 was especially torturous, because no fanbase in America is less deserving of Championships than the notoriously awful fanbase of Miami. I actually went to work the next day and had two separate people say to me: "Isn't it great about the Marlins? I didn't even know we had a baseball team!" I should've punched them.

Imagine someone in Cleveland saying that about the Indians, Browns, or Cavs. You can't. It wouldn't happen.

Yes, LeBron, you and Miami deserve each other. All glitter, no heart.

And to all my friends in Miami that might be upset that I disparaged their fine city (as if any of them would think twice about disparaging mine)
    http://theclevelandfan.com/cleveland...e/6683-closure

Hiko nails it per the norm.

Miami is a shithole, hence why I'm the most bitter about losing them to the fucking heat.

I'm going to bet something, there's more fans of the Yankees/Mets/Red Sox/Steelers/Browns what have you than their native fans.

Ever since that fiasco with Pete Rose (during the All Century celebration at the second game of the 1999 World Series), the guy can't get a steady gig, even on the Golf Channel for chrissakes. Then again, this might have been part of the plan from the beginning. After all, if you can make a polarizing figure like Rose appear to seem sympathetic...

Just like with Roy Oswalt , I don't know if the Cards are ready or willing to split with any of their young promising talent or any CA$H , They just might stay put with what they have .

Speaking of Cleveland , I can remember back in 2002 when Chuck Finley came St. Louis for the stretch run to the playoffs and ended his career on a positive note . I know he pitched in the 2002 N.L.C.S. and won a game vs. the S. F. Giants . The Cards lost but got that far with Finleys help . I think he was having some sort of meltdown with Tawny Kitaen at the time .

3K showed up to the morning session for Browns TC, which is a record.

let that sink in for a bit...the Browns are a 5-11 team last year, with a washed up Jake Delhomme at QB, and predicted to finish last in the division.

    just blows me away.

Man , what a difference 24 hours makes . I never would have ever thought that the Cards would let go of Ryan Ludwick . Legendary Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan is notorious for taking in veteran pitchers and getting the most out of them . He has extended many pitchers careers . Jake Westbrook is perfect for Duncans methods of madness . Hopefully Westbrook will help the Cards rotation down the stretch .

I dunno how strongly either way you guys feel about Karma, but it has been my experience that you reap just what you sow. Keep that in mind when you read the following, regarding the Miami Heat's decision to fire 30 people from their season ticket staff after increased sales made them "redundant personnel"...

Miami Heat fires sales team after season tickets sell out

    BY DOUGLAS HANKS

The Miami Heat easily sold out its season tickets after LeBron James announced he was joining the team. That turned out to be bad news for the ticket-sales staff, which the Heat fired Friday.

``Now that the supply for [season tickets] has been exhausted we no longer require a season ticket sales team,'' the Heat said in a brief statement Friday afternoon.

A team spokeswoman, Lorrie-Ann Diaz, declined to comment or answer questions about the firings, which one staffer said cost roughly 30 people their jobs.

The news marks the first departure from the easy-street air that's surrounded the Heat since James announced July 8 he would play for Miami. During an e-mail interview Wednesday on the star player's impact on the team, Diaz noted how busy the sales staff was in the hours after James signed.

``Our sales reps were manning the phones around the clock,'' Diaz wrote.

``We couldn't get them to go home! There was very little inventory remaining once LeBron officially made his decision. And we sold out of that, as well, in record time.''

In its statement, the Heat said it tries to match its sales staff to the number of tickets they have to sell each season.

``Historically, our sales force has ebbed and flowed based on the supply and demand of our season ticket inventory,'' the statement read.

Since 2006, when the Heat won the NBA championship, the sales staff has had an uphill job as the injuries, losses and player trades turned off fans. In 2007, the Heat found itself the worst team in basketball, and seats were hard to fill.

That changed once word leaked that James might come to the Heat. As the rumor gained steam, the team saw a rush on season-ticket purchases. Once James made it official during a live ESPN interview, it was hours before all the season tickets were gone.

Ayeh Ashong, partner at the Tickets of America brokerage in Miami, said demand for Heat tickets is sky-high, with opening game seats selling for about $250 a piece.

Heat season tickets typically sell for as little as $30 per game for seats high in the AmericanAirlines Arena or as much as $2,300 for courtside seats, Ashong said.

``They're probably the hottest tickets in the country,'' he said.

In its six-sentence statement, the Heat did not release details of the staff dismissals.

``While the decision to release part of our sales force was a difficult one, we greatly appreciate their contributions to the company,'' the statement read. ``We have also hired a placement service to assist those individuals find new employment.

``Should any season tickets become available, they will be handled through our season ticket deposit program. We thank those employees for their time with the company and wish them success in their future endeavors.''
