Hickson's a weird one...but the kid can play...

And if Sessions would stop flying all over the place like Rondo on crack...

    and remember this...

Moe Williams was on the bench...

good to see the Cavs fans out in force last night.

i still say the Cavs will be entertaining to watch. early wins will give them confidence, and the fans will rally behind them. and to kinda quote the great Lou Brown, maybe they can win enough games to give the media (especially ESPN) a nice big shitburger to eat!

Sometimes I really wonder about the mental faculties of the Cavs' owner Dan Gilbert. Instead of keeping his yap shut and allowing the team to attempt to win against the Celtics (which they did impressively), before the game he holds a press conference about Lebron James, to say he is done talking about...Lebron James.

Cavaliers owner says he's past scrutiny of LeBron, Heat

By Ira Winderman South Florida Sun Sentinel

PHILADELPHIA — LeBron James says he has moved on. So, now, apparently, has Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert.

There will be no further scrutiny into the machinations that delivered James to South Florida this summer, Gilbert told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. A member of the Miami Heat staff told the Sun Sentinel that the team is not aware of the pursuit of any investigation by the Cavaliers.

Following up a question-and-answer interview that appeared in Wednesday's editions of the Plain Dealer, Gilbert, in an email, put any lingering questions to rest.

"The best position to take on all of this is to focus all of our time and energy on the present and future success of the Cleveland Cavaliers, which we are more excited about than we ever have been," Gilbert wrote in the email posted on the newspaper's website.

"The environment today is extremely positive and the team first atmosphere is as productive and more conducive to the culture that produces long-term winning than at any previous time during our five-plus years in Cleveland. This franchise has moved on."

In the wake of signing James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh this summer, Miami Heat President Pat Riley stressed there had been no advance contact between the team and the free agents prior to the July 1 negotiating period.

The Cavaliers had looked into an investigation, but ultimately decided to move forward, having received a package of draft picks from the Heat in the sign-and-trade deal that formally ended their association with James.

In the immediate wake of James' move to the Heat, Gilbert issued an open letter that included a passage that read:

"The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma. Just watch."

A week later, Gilbert was fined $100,000 by NBA Commissioner David Stern.

Asked about the Heat's Dec. 2 visit to Quicken Loans Arena, Gilbert, in the question-and-answer interview in Wednesday's Plain Dealer, guaranteed a safe environment.

"We get a lot of emails, a lot of suggestions on the kinds of ideas and things that people would like to do," Gilbert said. "There's a lot of good ones, but a lot of them are something that the franchise couldn't or wouldn't endorse, just as being not consistent with what the NBA would want or probably what we would even want, too.

'Fans will express themselves. We will always have the best security possible as we always do. And I hope that Cleveland and the fans, you would hope that everybody keeps it to a certain level, because anything you do that crosses the line isn't going to look bad for anybody but the franchise and Cleveland."

it wasn't really a press conference, just an interview with the paper. not like all the local TV and radio guys were there. i think the email mentioned was sent after Gilbert was asked a question by the reporter, and he declined to answer the question until he sent the email.

Thanks for clearing that up. Seriously, the way the story was reported here by our local sports tv tools, you'd never know that. It goes with the irritating smugness offered by South Florida media outlets since James "took his talents to South Beach", and it truly has gotten old quickly.

here's the link to the article

    http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index....ner_dan_1.html

the email response is a little further down in a separate section

Pojo said something about the team moving, but i don't see it happening. Gilbert got the rights to the Cleveland casino, and word is he wants to tie events at the Q into events at the casino.

pojo, I do think there will be a few gems uncovered now that they are forced to play team ball. plus, Ferry was so busy adding depth to the roster that there were some pretty good players last year (Gibson, Powe, Moon to an extent) who couldn't get any minutes.

Sessions might play better once Mo is back in there. I think Byron is committed to running two small guards (2 of the 3 - Sessions, Mo, and Boobie) at the same time. there will be nights where that hurts defensively, but it will allow the Cavs to constantly push the ball.

the biggest thing for this team is to not let the ball stop moving. it stopped an awful lot over the last 7 years.

they seem to need another scorer (although that need is not so glaring if JJ scores like he is showing signs of doing). I think they will get good offensive production out of the 3 guards, plus Jamison off the bench.

They definitely need a center (but you can say that about probably 25 of the 30 teams in the league)

    shit, why not go, twona?

I'm not talkin' playoffs, but if nothing else, they look like a real football team this year. Those are great seats, btw. And at least it's not freeze-your-testicles-off weather yet.

    How about those Cavaliers...

    3-3...

Man...I can't wait until December 2. I don't think we have a shot in hell of winning...

but I just can't wait for the fucking reaction...

yeah, but early Monday they were 3-3 and at the top of the division. still are top of the division, just tied with Chicago.

back to back games with NJ this week, we'll see how that goes.

i guess the guy he bought the tickets from wants to go now, so i'm off the hook. tickets and money were exchanged on Friday, and the guy decided to buy one back after the win over the Patriots.

I think I read that, as of Monday, if the playoffs started today... the Cavs would be the 4-seed, and the Heat would be the 5-seed. Ha!

We know that won't hold. A 1-8 matchup seems more likely...

12/2 should be interesting. I just want to see the crowd boo everytime he touches the ball...even if its a 20-pt game in the 4th qtr

of course, ideally, he'd get a standing ovation.....

....after he tears up his knee

tough, tough loss for the Browns today. great drive by Colt to tie the game in the closing minute.

but Stuckey's fumble cost the game.

some folks will rip Mangini for throwing the ball deep in their own end, but I don't think you can play for the tie. gotta try to win it...

Well...time to warm this fucking thing up for the big game this week.

The Cavs are 7-9, and to be honest, it's not worse than I thought it would be...

They'll be playing the Miami Heat this week. The Heat? 9-8, and shit is hitting the fan...complete with LeDouche shouldering their coach while walking to the bench. Miami is saying no big deal. I say, he does that to Phil or Pat, and he's benched and suspended. Eric Spo is in troube, because the big three are whining like the spoiled bitches they are.

    Poor Spo...

Let me tell you...if the Cavs beat the Heat on Thursday, Spo is gone...

Fuck you 'Bron...you deserve everything you fucking get. I hope Riley does come back. He doesn't want to coach...no fucking way...but he'll come back...have fun with that too.

Bunch of fucking South Beach douchebags...

Seriously...you can't make this shit up...

    Fucking bunch of bitches...

    Sources: Erik Spoelstra frustrating Heat

    By Chris Broussard
    ESPN The Magazine
    Archive

The Miami Heat's players are frustrated with Erik Spoelstra and some are questioning whether he is the right coach for their team, according to people close to the situation.

With the ballyhooed Heat losing four of their last five games and sporting a mediocre 9-8 record, the players are privately grumbling about Spoelstra on several fronts.

Sources say the players believe he is not letting them be themselves, that they are questioning his offensive strategies, and that they think he is panicking because he fears losing his job.

In contrast to the popular view that Spoelstra has been hesitant to jump on superstars LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, sources say the Heat coach has shown no fear in criticizing them.

Exhibit A was a recent shootaround in which Spoelstra told James that he had to get more serious. The source said Spoelstra called James out in front of the entire team, telling him, "I can't tell when you're serious."

"He's jumping on them," one source said. "If anything, he's been too tough on them. Everybody knows LeBron is playful and likes to joke around, but Spoelstra told him in front of the whole team that he has to get more serious. The players couldn't believe it. They feel like Spoelstra's not letting them be themselves."

It is not known whether the players voiced their concerns about Spoelstra during their players-only meeting following Saturday's loss at Dallas. Nor is it apparent whether the bump between James and Spoelstra during a timeout in that game was accidental or a result of tension between the two.

Regardless, the players also believe Spoelstra's offensive strategies have been too simplistic, according to the sources. They feel like he is running nothing but pick-and-rolls and telling the Heat's secondary players to find open spots on the floor for catch-and-shoot jumpers.

The sources said the players also think the constant speculation about Spoelstra's job security is getting to the third-year coach and that he has resorted to nitpicking over minor details because of it.

"He's not a motivator," one of the sources said. "Instead of coaching he's at the point where the players are starting to sense that he's fearing for his job."

While the players are having their doubts about Spoelstra, it is not clear whether they want team president Pat Riley to coach them. Several people close to the situation said Wade definitely does not want Riley to come down to the sidelines. Sources also said that while recruiting players this past summer, Riley insisted that he would not coach the team.

"Riley kept saying 'Spoelstra's a good coach and he'll grow into a great coach'," a source said. "He said he got his coaching break [with the Los Angeles Lakers] around the same age as Spoelstra got his."

It is widely believed that Riley does not want to coach this season. However, one source said that privately Riley has at times been critical of the Heat's game-planning.

While expectations around the league have started to lessen for the Heat because of their struggles, the sources said the players still have a championship-or-bust mentality for this season and that they are open to whatever changes are necessary to get there.

While the players think that may mean a coaching change, one member of the Heat organization said the team is suffering from a lack of leadership from the players, not the coach.

"They don't want to step on each other's toes," the person said. "There's no leader on the team. Somebody has to speak up and be the leader on the team. They can't be afraid to step on people's toes. They need a vocal leader who's going to make everybody accountable. I don't think it's on the coach. It's on the players."

Local scuttlebutt has December 15 as the day Riley steps in, which will solve nothing. They are over matched in so many areas, and James refuses to man up as a point guard. Three (OK, 2 1/2) marquee players are not enough to win. Look at Boston, who were smart enough to have Rajon Rondo to compliment things. Who have the Heat got? With no big presence, they are getting clobbered deep. Even Shaq would look good at this point.

On the other hand, I'm enjoying watching these egotistical blowhards squirm. Serves them right. Oh Yes we did my ass.

Here's Cleveland's best writer...interviewing himself about the Heat on Saturday Night...some good stuff here...

Talking to myself about some ex-Cavaliers...

He would never admit it, says Terry Pluto, but you-know-who has to be having a few second thoughts after the Heat's slow start.

Q: How do you feel about the Heat struggling?

A: Even more revealing, they were 1-6 against teams with winning records. According to ESPN stats, a certain former Cavalier has played at least 40 minutes in seven games, and the Heat are 0-7.

Q: Are you talking about Zydrunas Ilgauskas?

A: No, he's having a solid season, averaging 6.9 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 58 percent in 19 minutes a game. South Beach has been good to him.

Q: What about the former Cavalier who used to wear No. 23?

A: He can explain and spin all he wants, he looks grumpy on the court and unsure of how to fit with Dwyane Wade. That former Cavalier is averaging 23.5 points, shooting 45 percent with 5.3 rebounds a game. All of those numbers are either the worst of his career, or the lowest since his rookie season. Only his assists (8.3) are up.

    Q: What is the problem?

A: There is a duplication of skills. Wade and the former Cavalier both like to dominate the ball. Neither are used to watching someone else do it. Nor can they like it when the other guy is The Man. It's one thing to drastically change your game for a few months on the Olympic team, it's another to do it for more than six months in the NBA.

Q: So this is a real problem?

    A: You better believe it.

    Q: Can they fix it?

A: I hope it takes them forever. This is not like Boston, where Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett joined Paul Pierce. All are approaching the end of their careers. All three have different styles. All three were so sick of losing, they were willing to not only be unselfish on offense, but adopt a fierce approach to defense.

    Q: And the Heat?

A: It has to kill Pat Riley to watch it, but Miami is a very soft team.

Q: What should the former Cavalier and his teammates do?

A: Don't know. Don't care. But you can be sure that not only Cavs fans, but most of the NBA, hopes that team stays in storm for a long, long time.

Q: Do you think the former Cavalier wishes he were still a Cavalier?

A: Of course, but he'll never admit it.

from a basketball standpoint, Terry's got it dead-on: they've duplicated skill sets.

if you've got either Wade or LeBron on your team, you let them dominate the ball. usually one-on-five. occasionally, they find an open shooter for a big 3. having both doesn't help you because there's only one ball. and neither of these guys are consistent 3-pt shooters (they can both be good in streaks, but not consistently).

they don't have a real big man (Bosh doesn't count; he's a much softer version of KG). Bosh can help you on mid-range jumpers off penetration, but you could get that out of Antawn Jamison. they also lack that kind of annoying, defense-minded big man like Noah or Varejao.

these guys will get better and ought to be able to win 50 games just by dominating in transition. but when the playoffs arrive and things slow down and get more physical, they've got problems.

you know...the funny thing is...is if LeBron really played the point forward role that Magic played with the Lakers...they could have all three on the floor at once, and effective. He has to drop his damn ego, and take the shit seriously though. He can distribute and defend, would cause match up problems, score about 20 a game, dish out 8-10 a game...and be able to crash the boards with a PG on him...

This team isn't set up well...yet...but there's plenty of times...and I'm sure David Stern will figure out a way to put more pieces in Miami, like he did with Boston...

A local sports guy around these parts predicts December 26th the day after they lose the X-mas day game to the Lakers.

Pluto writing "former Cavalier" reminds me of when Hal Lebovitz would refer to the Ravens as the Ughs.

As I mentioned earlier, it's hard for me to put into words the enjoyment I am finding in all of this, particularly after the way the trio served themselves up in such a disgusting display of entitlement. Lebron yucking it up about multiple championships having never won anything, the rock star display at the arena, and worse the manner in which our local media allowed themselves to be spoon-fed this horseshit.

It just doesn't make a lick of sense. The one time Chris Bosh has been quoted as saying anything lately, he wants the team to be able to "chill". You have James complaining that the team isn't having any fun. Now just where and when did the phrases chill out and have fun get inserted into the idea of a complimentary work ethic? These boneheads literally assumed that by their mere presence, all they'd have to do in order to win games is show up to them. This arrogance has now completely backfired, as every team in the league not only wants to beat them for this attitude, they want to pulverize and thoroughly humiliate the Heat.

And the coaching just isn't working. James needs to be taken to a corner and told that like it or not, he has to play point guard. The team need a couple of bigger players added to the mix as well. But most importantly, these nitwits need to stop being pampered and have their specific roles laid out for them. In other words, some discipline needs to come along, and soon. If that means Riley, then that will have to do. If Bosh is upset at the notion of practice or James fears he is playing too many minutes, just wait until Riley starts up with his legendary 4 hour practices. These prima dona dorks will be begging for the return of Spoelstra.

a bunch of articles in the PeeDee today, including this one i just saw when i got home:

Cleveland Cavaliers hire law firm to investigate LeBron James' signing with Miami Heat: Report

Cleveland, Ohio -- As the Cleveland Cavaliers prepare to host the Miami Heat and LeBron James in his first visit to the city since leaving it as a free agent, another element is added to an already emotional situation.

As Thursday night's Miami-Cleveland game approaches, Adrian Wojnarowksi reports for Yahoo! Sports that the Cavaliers and owner Dan Gilbert have enlisted a law firm to investigate the circumstances leading to James' signing with Miami.

    Wojnarowski writes:

The Cleveland Cavaliers have poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into a high-powered Midwestern law firm to investigate their suspicions that the Miami Heat broke NBA tampering rules while pursuing LeBron James, and owner Dan Gilbert has privately vowed he won’t relent until he has a thick binder of findings to drop on the desk of the NBA commissioner, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The NBA won’t launch an investigation into a tampering case without a formal request from a team, but sources say Gilbert’s plan is to give commissioner David Stern a detailed case that includes meetings, phone calls and contingency plans that date as far back as 2008. Gilbert will implore Stern to use his powers as commissioner to get access to phone records and testimony of key people surrounding Heat president Pat Riley, James and others potentially involved.

James became a free agent last July 1. NBA rules do not allow a team besides the one a player had been on -- in James' case, the Cavaliers -- to talk with the player about a potential signing until July 1.

    Wojnarowki writes:

One focus of the law firm’s probe includes an alleged Riley-James meeting in Miami in November 2009, and a meeting of James’ inner circle with Wade in Chicago in June 2010, sources said.

Riley, James, Wade and Bosh have denied there was a predetermined collusion in the historic free-agent binge, although the players have admitted to discussing the possibility of playing together as far back as the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Gilbert and the Cavaliers are apparently resolute in their desire to get to the bottom of the issue.

    Wojnarowski writes:

As one league source told Yahoo! Sports: The Cavs are “determined to get everything out there. They’re not letting go of this. They’re not going to just let this die.”

Potential penalties for tampering could include front-office suspensions, fines and losses of draft picks.

So it would appear that the above flies in the face of the statements made by Dan Gilbert on opening day (and thankfully posted by twonabomber HERE: Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert: 'No regrets ... we're looking forward to the future') that he has moved on from all of this.
