an announcement or a moment of silence is a VERY bad idea. put a page in the program or something and leave it at that. let the drunks wipe their ass with it.

yesterday morning on the local NBC early news the reporter was talking about the FB posts and tweets they were getting and she says "we can't read most of them on the air, they're pretty bad" and i just laughed. stay classy, Cleveland!

i didn't see the "official" press release, but supposedly his son listed Art as president of the Ravens and didn't mention the Browns at all.

You know, I regretted that post shortly after making it!

    Speaking of the Browns:

Report: It's Not Too Early To Be Pessimistic About Cleveland Browns

    September 7, 2012 | ISSUE 48•37

    The Onion

CLEVELAND—Though the team has yet to play a single game, a report published Thursday by Sports Illustrated football writer Peter King confirmed that it is not yet too early to be pessimistic about the Cleveland Browns this season. "In years past, it might have made sense to wait until they started out with a five-game losing streak to declare the season over, but clearly the time to give up on the Browns is now," said King, whose report determined Cleveland has "all the right pieces in place" to start getting blown out immediately in week one. "This is a team that is absolutely beyond hope, trusting their offense to a rookie quarterback who will turn 29 in October and a banged-up rookie running back. And with all the injuries in the defense, you'd be crazy not to have a completely bleak outlook on this shit team." While acknowledging the Browns are a perennial favorite for worst team in the league, the report concluded the floor of their potential is now lower than ever and, with a little luck, 2012 could be the year they finally put together a whole season without a single win.

looks like the Browns have come to their senses and will NOT mention Modell after all...

    good decision.

    probably true, twona.

but you can't go 20-50 in the second half with the same talent that was at .500 in the first half....and keep your job.

I read that Francona is actually interested in the job.. Surprising to me; what a drastic shift in payroll

    I would agree...but rephrase...

Acta was ONE of the Indians' problems...

You hire a loser, you can't help but be a loser...

but I'm not just talking about him...
"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."

The Francona hire is only step one...coaching staff is step two...then comes the big step three....which is the offseason.

If Antonetti doesn't change culture, then this team can hire Stengal and still lose.

and there's no reason to think he will.

You see Oakland already making waves...because Beane gets that he has to be ahead of the curve...

I like the trade for Trevor Bauer. Don't know if this Stubbs kid (he's not that young anymore) will ever hit.

They really need to close the deal on Swisher. But when's the last time this FO closed the deal on any FA signing?

Yo DgT...free agent signings aren't a 'this front office' issue...to be honest. Think about it...not many major acquisitions...even in the 90s, other than Robbie...and that was years in the making because of Sandy...

It's certainly not the best way to build a club in a mid-sized market (hell does Cleveland even qualify as mid anymore?). However, I think they have to wade into a bit right now, because they've missed on too many of the other moves. If Matt LaPorta had panned out, they wouldn't have needed to sign Reynolds.

If Jason Knapp, or Carrasco (even though he might resurface this year) had worked, they wouldn't need to sign another SP.

If they ever drafted or developed ANY corner OF's, they wouldn't be throwing big money (at least for the Tribe) at Nick Swisher.

Thinking back to the 90's, they did it on occasion. It's easy to forget, but Kenny Lofton came BACK in 98 as a FA. Juan Gone was a one-year FA. Hell, Orel Hershiser was a FA right after the strike ended.

    But not many...

Kenny loved Cleve, and as u mentioned...was coming back. Juan Gone was coming off his worst season...maybe of his career up to that point...and Shapiro signed him to a one-year deal...I think it was Shapiro. Orel was old...coming off a shit season, if I remember...and I'm pretty sure took a hefty paycut.

My point was that rare I the day that the Indians get a guy still in his prime...

And a multi-year is unheard of...

I'd be shocked if Texas doesn't blow the Tribe's offer to Swisher out of the water, now that Hamilton's gone

We'll see...I do think that the Indians have an offer out there. I do think that Swisher, an Ohio boy, was waiting for Hamilton to sign. I do think he will get many offers.

My bet? Cleveland gets Cody Ross and a staring pitcher...like Edwin Jackson...or a Shawn Marcum.

I still think Cabrera gets dealt...and that's the big move to me. If they could move Cabrera...to say...St. Louis...for one of their top prospect pitchers...the staff could be great for years to come..

    And that's a game changer...

Kyrie with 41 points in a loss...looks like Cleveland will have another lottery pick this year. It would be nice if Sacramento didn't...so we could get their pick too...such is life...

He's not a superstar, but it's still nice to see the Tribe open up their wallets. Starting to fill out as a decent lineup. It's all about starting pitching right now.

He's an extremely underrated player...not a superstar in New York...in Cleveland...

    megastar imo...and a homish-town-boy...

The Indians will make a move here soon...but how about Danny Salazar. I called my Dad while the game was going on...and he's a Yankees fan...

and he said calmly, "When will they deal him to the Yankees..."

My only reply was grudgingly..."too soon..."

The Cavs go out and bring in Jarrett Jack and Andrew Bynum...

both risky moves, but if they pay off in the least...

    LeBron will be back...

The team has a nice roster...with LeBron...the best roster in the East...

    if healthy...and that's a big if...

but at least Gilbert makes moves...

Bynum is worth a roll of the dice. Hard to find a skilled big man.

I have a hard time stomaching Lebitch to. I couldn't stand Jordan either but he didn't bail on his team like a cunt.

I didn't like Jordan either, but there is no comparison.

Rodman was right. LeBron would have gotten killed in that era. Bill Laimbeer and Rick Mahorn would have bitch slapped that punk.

I don't give a shit what any of the Cleveland owners do...as long as it brings a title...

The difference between me and most is that I've entered a zone where I don't give a shit about the players for the teams I root for in a sense of thinking they are kings or cunts...

    I don't care...

I care about the name on the front...not the name on the back...

Bring in whoever...just win a title...

I don't give a shit about comparisons either...Jordan...LeBron...whatever...two different players...two different times...for my money...I'd take any of those guys on the 60's celtics...

If I had to pick one player...all time...to start a team...Bill Russell is my choice every time...

and my second pick would be Oscar Robertson...who is the true comparison to LeBron...IMO...

Robertson was a 6'5", 220 pound point guard, who could play all the positions...and passed the ball first.

    Oh...and Rodman's a douchebag...c'mon...

Cousy would be up there as well...

but you give me Russell, Robertson...and ham n eggers...and I could win titles every year...

Fuckin' Tribe on a ROLL right now! The starting pitching has been sensational for the last month or two.

I'm with you, brother. Just don't give a shit, want to see a title before the maggots get me. I'm over LeBron either way; the way I see it, if you can get the best player in the league to join your team, you do it. I don't care if it's Adolf Bin Laden.

You're far enough away, you can get excited. Most of us here are expecting to be disappointed again.

My life as a Cleveland sports fan has consisted of a delicate balance of getting excited WHILE still expecting to be disappointed. Like I said, just once before the maggots get me.

The absolutely bizarre part of it is that I managed to move to the one town that is almost as cursed. Only one title in Atlanta EVER, and I was rooting for the other team. So even by adopting the teams down here as my "B" teams, thereby DOUBLING my chances, I'm still looking at an O-fer.

And here we go. Another Cavs season full of expectations, this time they may actually be met.

Holy hell, Browns in first place.

Too bad I am off tomorrow, I would love to see the Steelers fans crying at work. That is, if they even show up.

Well, Cavs are cruising into the playoffs. We'll see what happens, but this is where the rubber meets the road. I don't see them having too much trouble getting to the Eastern finals, but it is the first time in the postseason for Love and Uncle Drew.
