The reality is, the Wells "show" was in fact a true radio broadcast, and events did actually take place as explained. However, a massive cover-up ensued during the show's airing, obfuscating the truth until all was revealed in this riveting documentary from 1984, which was widely discredited at the time.

The "Rosebud" mantra was actually taken from a studio mogul's pet name for his mistresses vagina. He took it as Welles making fun of him and prevented him from making anything consequential for decades after.

Welles was also a notorious glutton that would often eat TWO complete steak dinners at a time...
