    The ELVIS Guitar Thread...

Welcome to my thread and welcome to ELVIS' headquarters...

Well, after getting married and constructing my own man-cave/studio and getting everything into place, the results are finally starting to come to fruition...

This is my first demo attempt of one of my song ideas from the ELVIS vault...

    Three straight tracks on GarageBand...

    No overdubs or editing...

    Don't laugh...

    I'm Runnin'

Holy crap dude! What a fucking great groovin' tune. My feets was a tappin'. Great job! Any chance of emailing me that in mp3 so I can have it in the trucks rotation?

    ELVIS,

Just took a listen to "I'm Runnin'"... has a bit of a Thorogood/ZZTop vibe (and some others I can't quite recall while sober) and then at the 1:12 mark you turn into Steve Vai and shred (1:25 onward hit your stride)... from a producer's perspective, it sounds like you may have two different ideas here that might work better on their own... looking forward to hearing how you developing the song idea/structure. I know you're just playing into Garage Band, so take my comments with the tiniest grain...

    Very cool, bro.

    Thanks...

The song itself has that particular SRV vibe in mind, but the solo was improvised off the top of my head in my general style...

So I see what you mean...

I play an Alesis DM5 set with a DM Pro head unit live...

I'm quite a bit better than that clip suggests...

My idea or goal for everything I do is to play my parts live all the way through...

It adds a dynamic to music that you can't get by editing a song together...

It's hard as fuck, but it's also a good way to get good, In my opinion...

Yep, that's it... SRV... I was trying to think of maybe Tuff Enuff by the Fab T-Birds (or Family Style LP right between Hard To Be and White Boots)... "I'm Runnin'" wedged in between the sound of, say, Tuff Enuff and The House Is A Rockin' (or Change It but at 2x).... but forget the comparisons, you sound great, looking forward to updates.

    That is all.

BTW, the reason the timing fluctuates so much in that clip is because I played the song on guitar first, added drums and bass and then replayed the guitar track...

It's difficult if you can't play to a click, but if you can and do it's way easier to add that stuff after the initial rhythm track is done...

Right on, Elvis! I'll give it a listen tomorrow, but from the comments I've read, I'm really looking forward to it!

dude, it's pretty cool, there needs to be more separation of the instruments tho.

i'm a huge fan of the wall of noise, i bow at that altar weekly. when you've got a groove smoking, every instrument deserves it's own little eq/stereo spectrum house.

Don't take this as payback for all the smack you've talked about other people's tones here for YEARS, I actually mean this as constructive criticism.... the guitars sound OK, but are a little flat, and dark sounding. You may want to bump of the presence a bit. Which amp was that?

That's basically my ADA MP1 into a Behringer Bass V-Amp Pro with some analog effects and EQ in between...

I can get 1000 different tones like that but I usually hover around one sound...

I try to get as clean as possible while still having some balls...hopefully anyway...

I'd be interested to hear one of your Marshalls....

    That's a mistake I do often...

Sometimes I cut too much presence trying to quell buzz...

Guitar tracks always sounder warmer when placed in a mix...

Mixing's a little harder than it sounds, huh?

    With a couple mics ??

I've played around with that and at one time that's all I used...

A Fender Deluxe plugged into a 4x12 sounds nearly identical to my '73...

But overall the tone is not much different than my digital setup...

My next step is to get that new ADA cabinet emulator and see what that does...

That thing seems like it adds a real low/mid kick...
