Shootings are strange. There was one police shooting were the person shots took two 40 caliber hollow points in the head and lived. I'm sure it messed the dude up pretty bad. I'm sure his life changed. Maybe he wishes those bullets killed him.

Hollow points are for flesh but tend to lose energy and lose effectiveness against hard surfaces. It could be the hollow-points mushroomed before penning his skull. I'm sure it badly ripped up his scalp in any case...

It's the hydraulic action of the water in the body tissues that open the hollow points. I know one bullet stopped just short of the carotid artery. So one bullet did penetrate.

Civilian shoots, kills gunman at Tumwater Walmart; 2 others hurt

TUMWATER, Wash. -- A shooting outside a Walmart Supercenter in Tumwater Sunday evening was the end result of a crime spree from the now deceased gunman, police said. That gunman was killed by a 47-year-old armed civilian in the Walmart parking lot.

Tumwater Police spokeswoman Laura Wohl said it all happened about 4:40 p.m. when officers were alerted to a possible carjacking near a gas station.

            ...

Tumwater Police said the suspect tried to carjack two cars in the Walmart parking lot at 5900 Littlerock Rd SW.

One driver was shot when he refused to give up his car, Wohl said. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center. As of Monday, the man was in critical condition and in intensive care.

As the suspect tried to take a second car a "bystander here in the parking lot shot the suspect," Wohl said.

According to a police release, two armed civilians initially approached the suspect.

            ...

Adams said he ran out of the store and into the parking lot toward his car. The gunman, not far away, then shot a driver of a car he was attempting to steal.

Adams said he then saw a father with his family take out his concealed weapon and shoot the gunman dead.

That man is being hailed a hero by shoppers.

Yeah, that one was a little close to home. I was probably less than two miles from there when it happened.

Gunman was a wackjob from McCleary, which is a small town known for right wing wackjobs. Hell only knows what his problem was, but the facts are he had both a criminal record AND a record of being a wackjob, so again the main problem here is guns in the hands of people who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a gun. Ironically, he probably bought the gun at WalMart, since he obviously knew his way around the guns & ammo section of that store (he was attempting to shoot the locks off the ammo displays in the store to steal bullets)

As for the guy who took him out.... he also attempted to save his life after shooting him, and the article in the local paper mentions his medical training, so I'm guessing he was a military medic or something along those lines. Or in other words, somebody who actually was trained to use a weapon properly, and only when necessary. As it was in this case..... not surprised it took the Tumwater PD a while to show up. They were probably too busy with their speed traps.

Valley mom holds suspect at gunpoint, man arrested after injuring officers and K-9

TEMPE, AZ — One mother said her quick thinking and nearby pistol helped protect herself and her kids during a home invasion.

The situation ended with an injured police K-9, two hurt Tempe police officers and a mother who forced the suspect out of her apartment at gunpoint.

"It was either me or him, and I had two kids. There was no way I was going to let them get hurt," the mother said.

Anthony Chambers is now charged with two counts of aggravated assault on an officer, three counts of kidnapping, harming a service animal, and five other felonies.

SAPD: Suspect stealing trailer shot by owner
Police say the owner of a trailer confronted and shot a man as he was stealing the trailer

Police say the owner of a trailer shot a man suspected of stealing his trailer in a neighborhood on the southwest side.

Two men reportedly stole the trailer around 4:00 a.m. Thursday morning on Painted Horse Street, near Old Pearsall Road and War Cloud.

Police say the owner followed the two men and confronted them. Gunfire was exchanged and one of the men was hit by birdshot from a shotgun. The other man took off.

The man who was shot was taken to University Hospital in stable condition. Police are investigating.

The number of people with suicidal levels of depression has really increased over the years. I think some people have just had it and they hate the world so they are going to go out causing destruction and making the news. Many of these shooters are on antidepressant medication which can make some people suicidal.

I don't know how you quantify "suicidal depression", but the rate was actually slightly higher in 1950 that it was in 2016 according to one online stat site (actually it's slightly higher now when both male and female death rates are combined, but still almost identical). It's true there has been a recent 20-year spike edging back towards 50's levels, but that seems to correspond with the 2001 attacks and perhaps the resulting PTSD from the wars...

Yeah, um, you're not allowed to shoot people over property in the vast majority of states and that guy might well face criminal prosecution...

According to the Center of Disease Control suicide rates are rising in the US. Suicide is 10th leading cause of death in the US. The most common way people in the US kill themselves is using a firearm. Suicides have risen over 30% in half the states since 1999.

Well it's definitely a factor that it's very easy to kill yourself in the US because of the prevalence of guns. In the same way that the stats show that having a gun makes you far more likely to end up being shot by someone else, it also makes it more likely you will kill yourself.

It's nuts that the same people that won't allow old people the freedom to euthanize themselves when they have a terminal illness are cool about people with mental problems having a human killing machine in their home...

I agree, this is correct and there seems to be a epidemic of veterans, and more women in general, offing themselves sadly. But to put it in perspective historically, the rate ebbs and flows. A friend of mine who's a vet had his best friend he served with in Afghanistan with commit suicide, then the friend's father killed himself. Just fucking awful. The son had a great job, a hot wife, kids, and a nice house just decided to put a gun in his mouth one day after being haunted by the war. The father hung himself...

If you spend time in a real war zone you will have some level of PTSD. It usually doesn't hit while the person is serving in the military. There is the peer pressure, the responsibility of duty, a lot going on to keep you distracted. The PTSD hits at home when things are safe and quiet. Seeing a population and politicians inept to what went on and out of the reality loop to where we can just keep getting into the same mess over and over and over not to mention the poor treatment of vets other than the fake patriotism only makes the PTSD worse. Yup you can have a great life and still be haunted and depressed in your head. It gets to the point of where the person just wants to end those awful feelings for good and escape them.

Something everyone who sends people into a war zone should be aware of but chicken hawks don't care.
