He certainly has a nice bag of tricks, but it all just comes off sounding like a guitar player wailing on a bass to me. I like the way he lays down a decent groove at the end of Yankee Rose. That sounds like bass playing.
He's good and you can learn a lot from him, but overly widdly bass goes a long way, IMO...
So good in fact no self-respecting musician who is not a failure ever mentions him as an "influence."
