So Von finally dropped off his guitar. In the next few day I will take it apart and sand it smooth. I will post pictures of the process as it happens.

At that price surely the tuners and pickups are going to be unusable?
With a locking nut the tuners don't matter all that much, right?... and I think Von will be swapping out that PU with the EVH Frankenstein one... that should be a nice, cheap guitar by the time it's all done.
My franky was one of those cheap guitars but now it plays great. Von's guitar is pretty good. I tuned it and set it up to see how well it plays and to get an idea of how it's should be set up again. It actually plays pretty good

Thanks. It's not that hard to do actually. The striping and first black/white relicing layer took like 6 hours to do. The rest of te relicing I have done here and there as I see nicks and dents that I have missed.
Try exercise and sit up straight while you're posting your paranoid rantings.

Since I don't have any progress on 5150 to post yet.... I made progress on my franky. I replaced the crap pickup with an EVH Frankenstein Humbucker.
What do you think about the pickup? I love it..

I've had a few nice pickups. I drive an SUV now but I had a real nice Ford F-250 a few years ago. I had a 72 GMC 3/4 ton with a 396 but it sucked too much gas and some dude bought it and yanked the motor to put in his El Camino. I know that's not the kind of pickup you mean but I'm naturaly a smartass. I just can't help myself sometimes.

Yeah it has been beat up way more since around 1984. That's where I referenced the relicing from as well as matching how new/ old the red layer looks. Which is slightly shiny and dark based on this picture.

The reason I asked was that (without seeing the headstock) I noticed it had 22 frets as opposed to the 21 on the original neck vs 22 on the Kramer "duck beak" neck.
