I just watched some of the Rock USA Festival Live 2013 on youtube. I saw what you mean.He might has some form of neuropathy. Most of my friends are in their 50's and a few of them (and myself) have lost some feeling in our extremities. It can be a sign of something really bad or just wear and tear. Arthritis can cause that too. He was complaining about the A/C last tour. Arthritis is pretty common for not so young people too.
