Ashtralia is drunkenly belligerent which means it must be my time to get up.

The good thing about this site is we have at least one drunken poster 24 hours a day.

To answer your question I have to think of how prolific the artist is and also the varied moods that I'd need to survive with only getting to listen to five bands. Also I claim the right to listen to all bootlegs.

    #1 Led Zeppelin

#2 Grateful Dead because they have so many great shows and they changed so much even during their great period from about '68 to '80. I need 20 minute Playing in the Bands and 40 minute Dark Stars that go into 20 minute Eyes of the World and I need old Easy Winds and funky Estimated Prophets. There's nothing better than chilled out Working Man's Dead and American Beauty acoustic Sunday mornings with the vaporizer and the turn table.

#3 Rolling Stones have to be in for many of the same reasons as the Grateful Dead listed above. They can bring the snarl of dark rock and the fun of funk rock. They had a great lead guitarist for a brief but amazing period. And the 80s and onwards fluff stuff could do for filler music since I'd need some of that in this bleak self imposed 5 band prison we're discussing.

#4 I guess Van Halen even though their output is less than 3 hours total. I demand the band release a live retrospective with 3 full shows... '79, '81, and '84. Then I would feel this is a good choice.

#5 ... I'm probably not going to be able to come to a quick decision on this one. I mean what can I say? I know this is wussing out but I'll throw out some thoughts...

    Jimi Hendrix David Bowie
    The Beatles The Who
    Frank Zappa STP
    Alice in Chains Beastie Boys
Rush Queens of the Stone Age
    Black Sabbath
Gov't Mule (you'd get all kinds of awesome covers and they release most shows in soundboard so you'd have a lot of great music to listen to compared to some others)
    Black Crowes (see Gov't Mule)
    The Doors ZZ Top
    Mastodon Pantera

Did I miss the announcement of his new release 13552?

    Times 2 FFS.
I listened to the Manchester bootleg from February this morning, that was a good one. Surprised he's going back over there already.

The Revolution is hinting that there will be a reunion with Prince later this summer. This new Warners deal has everyone speculating on remixes, remasters, and stuff from the vault finally getting official releases. Supposedly there is a record with Third Eye Girl ready to go, but the Warners thing may change that.

It's his first time playing in Scotland in 19 years.

I think when Prince plays in the UK people come from all over Europe, him doing 21 nights in a row to 20 000 in London last time I saw him shows that.
