Brian may's guitar is made out of oak.I got a shit load of wood from the thrift store and ordered the golden madrone.
It's gonna have the shape like a classic car ..i wanna hide the bridge hardware etc with bumper shapes carved out of solid wood..LOL
I'll post more pics tomorrow.I worked on it today.I'm using other types of wood too.

    cheers roth on!!

This is a pic of the back.Still gonna work on the contour shape.Anybody know a tremelo system without springs?I only know bigsby. Is there a cool tremelo bridge out there?Does steinberg use springs?BTW the oak is real easy to saw and is lovely with sandpaper.

You could use a Kahler trem, no need for rear routing with those.

I just routed an Explorer for a Kahler 2200-BN that my brother bought me for a gift...

BN stands for Black Nickel...a color you'll notice Kahler doesn't readily offer...

You know, I installed it against my better judgment without trying it first...

I don't like fooling with locking down strings...

I just usually oil the nut slots...

I haven't strung it up yet...

But I doubt I'll lock it down unless it's a problem...

I seem to spend half my life looking for allen/hex keys plus if you break a string it's game over.

This exchange reminds of the Govan Guthrie clip someone posted a year ago in which he said he uses, "the unfortunately named Nut Sauce."

    Hell yes you can...

Just as much, if not more so than a Floyd...

Also with a Kahler, you string height never varies as it does with a Floyd, or any other floating design...

    Good job...

    I think you'll like it...

Steinberger uses springs, but I think they're top-routs.

R-Trems aren't too expensive but TransTrems are pricey. MusicYo had some in the past but I don't know if they do now.

Here's a place with Steinberger parts http://headlessusa.com/headless-parts.htm I have a Cort Steinberger copy, I keep wanting to take it apart and make a new body for it. Maybe a doubleneck?

I can remember when there was the big Kahler vs Schaller show down. It was the 1980's and in the US we had a big paranoia the Japanese were going to take over. Kahler was a family owned business in Aneheim, California and they would run these big ads in guitar magazines on why their product was superior, better engineered, easier to install and MADE IN U.S.A.

Then when you talked to people they hated the way the Kahlers sounded. The MADE IN GERMANY Schaller Floyd Rose might have been a pain in the ass to install but people liked the feel and sound better than the Kahler. They never really seemed to catch on even when the mom and pop company marketed the living shit out of their product. I assume they are well made but gee, I had to have a Kramer with a Floyd because Eddie used one. LOL!
