Brain Surgery Patient's Obamacare Plan Denies Meds, Drops Doctors

    Breitbart

A New York woman suffering from a neurological disease that has required four brain surgeries has been dropped by all of her doctors and denied medications due to her Obamacare plan.

"I've been vomiting. I lost 22 pounds. The pain is unbearable," said Margaret Figueroa, 49, on Wednesday. "My medication helps me function during the day."

Figueroa suffers from a disease known as Arnold Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia. Even though the Obamacare plan she purchased assured her that she was covered, her insurance card was denied when she went to fill her prescriptions. Then she learned that none of her doctors accept her Obamacare plan. Figueroa says she cannot find a doctor who accepts her Obamacare plan; indeed, there are only six doctors in all of Staten Island who take her plan, none of whom she's been able to get appointments with.

Figueroa's congressman, Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY), intervened to help her obtain some of her vital prescriptions. Grimm says he's already received calls from at least a dozen Staten Island residents facing the same problem with Obamacare's "narrow networks" – extreme restrictions to doctor and hospital access imposed by Obamacare.

"Even though the insurance company cashed your check, it doesn't mean it (the policy) has been implemented," said Grimm at a Wednesday press conference with Figueroa. "That's the problem – that the back end of Obamacare hasn't been fully built. You can go on the front end of an application and look at a list of plans, but what they don't tell you is that many of those plans don't have doctors yet."

    Figueroa is not alone.

As Breitbart News reported in January, the Washington Post warned that "Obamacare's narrow networks are going to make people furious – but they might control costs." Breitbart News contributor Scot Vorse learned the hard way about Obamacare's narrow networks when the nearest dentist who accepted the mandatory dental plan he was required to purchase for his children was over 100 miles away.

Obamacare's narrow networks have also shut out access to top cancer centers. The Associated Press says just 4 of 19 nationally recognized comprehensive cancer centers offer Obamacare access through all insurance plans in their state Obamacare exchanges, and a McKinsey and Co. study revealed 38% of all Obamacare plans only allow patients to pick from just 30% of the largest 20 hospitals in their areas.

Experts say the narrow network horror stories will only grow as more and more Obamacare customers attempt to use their Obamacare insurance only to realize its harsh realities.

Killing people and messing with people's lives to create such a mess, socialized medicine will look like the fix. Obamacare is create a problem and offer a solution. Of course instead of having optional government insurance in the mix, they have already taken over the healthcare industry and they are data mining medical records and giving them to private corporations. It's not about healthcare. It's about controlling the population.

    Well... not exactly.

The reality is that "socialized medicine" IS the fix and that Obamacare was a half assed attempt to fix a problem created BY the for profit insurance system, using the system that created the problem.

It's not going to fucking work. It might work "better" in many respects, but there are cases like this where these fucking criminal bastards will exploit any loophole that still exists. Assuming this story is even actually true, and considering it's a Breitfart article, that itself is a huge assumption.

The ONLY solution is a single payer, non-profit government administered health insurance system where everybody from the KKKoch Brothers to the homeless guy on the street is treated exactly the same. Everybody is in the pool, nobody is out. And everything is covered. No loopholes. No excuses. No "death panels", real or imaginary (and despite the Moosealini Palin narrative, the real "death panels" were always the corporate insurance bastards)

Want an exception to healthcare that shouldn't be covered? OK..... elective plastic surgery would fit there. Botox. Facelifts. Boob jobs.... things like that probably should NOT be covered under a single payer system, as they are not necessary medical care. If the for profit insurance industry wants to stay in the game, they can sell suplemental policies to deal with that stuff.

As for prescription drugs, repeal Chimpy's "Medicare Part D" giveaway to big pharma, and let the newly empowered National Healthcare System/Expanded Medicare For All/whatever name it will be called negotiate the prices with the drug companies, like they do in Canada.

    Canada had a similar path.

At first in my province where it started it was medical insurance then eventually morphed into what it is today.

It will take years to get where you need to be.

It's already taken years. Decades even. Half a century, in fact. President Truman proposed this in 1947, right about the same time that the post war governments of Germany and Japan were setting up national health care systems for their own people. Now it's no secret that those governments were still heavily under the influence of the US at the time. If not actual puppet states, then close to it.

One of our friends from the UK can correct me if I'm wrong here, but I believe they also launched their national health care around this same time. The US would have done so too, if not for the formerly worst Congress in history. (The current one has eclipsed them, unfortunately). And if I remember correctly, didn't Tommy Douglas first propose this in Canada right about then too? Though as you say, it did take him a while to get it established in Saskatchewan, much less throughout Canada. On a similar note, I'm sure that single payer will be a huge success in Vermont when it is implemented there, but the corporate whore media will still push the lie that "Vermont is a small state known for nothing except maple syrup and we can't possibly follow their example"

Well, here's the thing with that......

If you decrease Big Pharma's ridiculous profit margin, they will be less likely to turn out all these useless, un-tested (or at least not properly tested) poisons. It's no secret that they have put more of this shit out since Chimpy gave them this wide open door to steal from the American people.

So regulate the fucking bastards, and if the drug isn't safe, it doesn't get to market. And while it's probably open to debate what the definition of a "safe" drug should be (as there will always be allergies, bad combinations with other drugs, etc.) I would say the bottom line is if the side effects or long term damage are worse than the symptoms the drug supposedly treats, then the shit shouldn't be on the market. But thanks to Chimpy, they rush this crap out, sell it for hundreds of times more than what it costs, and pocket as much money as they can from it, so they will still have profits left over after the inevitable wrongful death lawsuits that result from the shit drugs killing people.

This is copied from wiki...but...it pretty much sums it up.

The implementation went from Douglas...who was a Socialist...to Prime Minister John Diefenbaker who was a Conservative to Prime Minster Lester Pearson who was a Liberal.

Seems back then the divide between parties was not as wide as they are now.

Douglas is widely known as the father of Medicare, and took the opportunity to take his cause to the federal stage. Thus, in 1961, he retired from his position as Saskatchewan's premier and turned over the job to Woodrow Lloyd, taking leadership of the federal New Democratic Party.

The Saskatchewan program was finally launched by his successor, Woodrow Lloyd, in 1962. The success of the province's public health care program was not lost on the federal government. Another Saskatchewan politician, newly elected Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, decreed in 1958 that any province seeking to introduce a hospital plan would receive 50 cents on the dollar from the federal government. In 1962, Diefenbaker appointed Justice Emmett Hall—also of Saskatchewan, a noted jurist and Supreme Court Justice—to Chair a Royal Commission on the national health system—the Royal Commission on Health Services. In 1964, Justice Hall recommended the nationwide adoption of Saskatchewan's model of public health insurance. In 1966, the Liberal minority government of Lester B. Pearson created such a program, with the federal government paying 50% of the costs and the provinces the other half. So, the adoption of health care across Canada ended up being the work of three men with diverse political ideals - Tommy Douglas, John Diefenbaker and Lester Pearson.

Fat chance that any right wingers in this country would ever support single payer. The current Congress has wasted time on over 50 votes to repeal "Obamacare" and that's a plan that originated at the KKKoch funded Heritage Foundation, and was first implemented in Massachusetts by Willard Mittens Romney.

Somebody would have to forge a "long lost Ayn Rand manuscript" calling for single payer before these tools would support it. They claim to be "Christians" but obviously don't follow JC's views on healthcare.

I would say it's crystal clear to the rest of the world that the reason ObamaCare is the shadow of what it should be lies squarely on the Republican's shoulder's.

What passed after all of the squabbling and horse-trading was meant to have huge growing pains. Given what Obama walked into with the economic meltdown, I say its a miracle he was able to accomplish this particulary in what was essentially a depression. History will show this was an important step IMO

The US Federal Government right now is too corrupt to make single payer work. Obamacare has really fucked with people and I'm sorry, healthcare is just something you don't play with. Nobody wanted the Affordable Care Act as it was. We didn't even know what it was. They just rammed it through and it made a bad situation worse.

It's the government's job to break up monopolies and arrest those involved in price fixing and racketeering. Well it can't even do it's core job. Not only can't it do it. It's become the muscle for the racketeers. Single payer only works when you have decent government and we aren't there right now.
