CVH will ALWAYS hold a special place in my life. I would much rather have NEW material from Dave and Ed than some glossed over, rehashed, old shit that really doesn't tap into their creativity and is simply about making a buck. Most of the suckers on this board (including me) have gone out over the years and bought anything VH, but I want NEW!! Ed was fucking amazing last tour with his playing...Now if we can only get him creating instead of rehashing, it could be amazing!!
"Hey man, that suit is you!!"
If I were guaranteed that a new album would be as good as ADKOT (minus Tattoo), I would be sorely tempted for new material. But judging by Dave's voice on the last tour and the recent Beach Boys thing, I think I'd go with CVH Boxed Set for $100, Alex.
(But the boxed set better be jammed pack with goodies and not a WB rip-off...)
My karma just ran over your dogma.
I wouldn't worry about Dave's voice for a new record because they can make him sound however they want in the studio. I would be concerned about a tour though. As far as a boxed set goes i am starting to think that all of that stuff in the vault is an urban legend. When they open it up they will find the same thing they did in Al Capone's vault.
RIDE TO LIVE, LIVE TO RIDE
LET `EM ROLL ONE MORE TIME
Dave sounded better on California Girls than the asleep on the beach Boys...
It's Mike Love and the Beach Boys that killed that performance...
I miss solo Roth. I want to hear Yankee Rose again live.
Not outside of his living room...
It was the Japanese shows he sounded canny then , just in time to stop .
fuck your fucking framing
Damn, this thread is right up my alley, but everyone has made grate posts and I agree with all of them!
That being said, at this particular time, I think I need more brand new music. Being that I'm so bummed that so many fucking years were blown without knowing how the real deal would have progressed from 1984 on, coupled with Dave's lyrics being more wisdomatic and his studio vocals still impress, I think I can hold off a little bit longer before I go ape shit for the crisp vintage stuff to be officially released.
I'd rather have a new album and tour. The old stuff will always be there and could be released whenever, if they're so inclined (i know, big if). The clock is ticking for these guys. I'd just assume squeeze out as much new stuff as possible before they hang it up. Plus, i'm not convinced that they'd actually mine the vaults and put out truly unreleased stuff as opposed to just cleaning up and releasing stuff that's already been out there for years. (not that that isn't a good thing, but i personally am more interested in truly unreleased stuff)

Honestly, at this point, I would buy a new disc but wouldnt pay $100 plus to see a new show..sorry..I love this fuckin band but age has caught up to me and VH...mix up the setlist every night and throw in tons of ADKOT and I may rethink...
You can get tix for under $100, but I get your point.
Yip am reading through the thread trying not to agree with everyone but the time isn't on out side release new stuff while they can and get the vault stuff later seems to be where my head is at the mo .
Will probably change with the next good post
we outta space
Another one of those classic genius posts, sure to generate responses. You log on the next day to see what your witty gem has produced to find no one gets it and 2 knotheads want to stick their dicks in it... Well played, sir!!
I'd like the box set, but I suspect it will never happen. I don't want to suggest that the guys are motivated by cash, but another tour in a couple of years will net them more cash than a boxset of live performances. Who buys DVDs these days? Even if the few hundred thousand fans who bought ADKOT - probably nudging a million worldwide - would buy such a product, it's probably not going to make a lot of financial sense.
The other thing is that there's a good chance that they probably don't own that footage that we know exists - never mind what we don't know about - and they don't have either a record label or a hands-on manager who could facilitate that stuff being licensed and put together.
Meanwhile, whatever this 'Project' is, the VHND is reporting that Ed has just released his new line of stripey sneakers. Those wear out quicker than CDs, and probably sell over and over to those fashionable dudes who wear 'em!
THINK LIKE THE WAVES
Well lets see for me personally they can stay home put out as much new music as possible but as far as touring forget it unless MA comes back for some one offs. Painful to watch Dave. Ed's still bringing it but time has sapped the shit out of them. Anyway new music, classic shows from 78-84 and any unreleased material that they have laying around and I'd be happy.
I see no reason why the answer can't be "both".....
Eat Us And Smile - The Originals
"I have a very belligerent enthusiasm or an enthusiastic belligerence. I’m an intellectual slut." - David Lee Roth
"We are part of the, not just the culture, but the geography. Van Halen music goes along with like fries with the burger." - David Lee Roth
My answer is both but I prefer the new record and tour. Dave's tour voice will be as it always has been pretty damn unpredictable, that's Dave but anyone that thinks he can't eventually come close to 07 sound I think is wrong. His 2013 was much better, not 07 but better than 12 by a lot.
I say the answer actually will be both. The record is supposedly pretty far along and heard that pretty consistently but am curious what other stuff is up which the whispers seem to be all over the place. Regardless quiet Van Halen and smiles usually mean busy Van Halen which is good. The one that comes up most frequently is a DVD of 1984 tour and deluxe re-release of the record. What is interesting about whatever else it is above a new record is the lack of the automatic dismissals of certain items. Certain things they always are fast to deny and say no way but not this time. Whatever it ends up being seems like they are aiming for something outside their historical comfort level. We shall see either way as Aug and Sept roll around.
I've always wondered how much of this shit the "band" really owned. At this point it's kinda moot. Dave obviously doesn't have a problem playing it in his Roth Shows. So what's left? The footage including Mikey. There is NO way Ed is gonna release footage of the band with Mikey. Oh, sure, they can go the same route they did with the Guitar Hero game and digitally place Wolfie there, singing Mikey's lyrics. But is that what WE want to see??
This whole thing is a cluster fuck.
American by birth. Southern by the grace of God.

No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!
Hey, there´ll be a new full album, a farewell tour including Michael Anthony in the bass, maybe Wolf as rythm guitar, and a special release of ten dvd concerts from 78 till 2016. Stay frosty!!!
P.S. : Shows will include the Superbawl, finally!!! It´ll include also 10 european cities, plus Mexico, Brasil and Argentina. End of the story, and please don´t ask for more!!!

11-9 right now, no pun intended.
I can't believe ONE person would take a new album and tour over a Blu-Ray box set of the old shows. My guess would be, those 9 never saw the real Van Halen live in front of their naked steaming eyes.
Of course I say that now...
I prefer a new album and tour.
You would be wrong. Saw em about 20 times FW - 1984 tours.
The act of creation is always where the charge is otherwise you end up like Kiss who I am a huge fan of but essentially has become a parody of themselves. I want to see them still creating and making it. I know what they were like, I was there, I want see what they still can do.
Living life like it is over and looking only backwards is a quitters way to live and fucking boring. Rather climb a new mountain. Guys that were the stud in high school and losers the rest of their life always like to live like it is still high school. Fuck that rather burn up in flames trying new shit.
Just to clarify that loser rest of their life comment is my general view not a meant to be a shot at you Von.

Agree 100%. It's really incomprehensible (EVEN after all these years knowing how they ignore their past)...that there isn't a proper DVD of VAN HALEN in their glory years -- Live DVD is well overdue. And is needed to document their legend in rock history. People years from now will only have half-assed bootlegs to look at -- or dvds w Sammy! But it is doubtful since that would require something with MA be released. Dunno, maybe Ed is ready to overlook that for a minute.
From Dave's show w the (2) 1984 b-roll/clips thrown in...I get the feeling it could be a 1984 special reissue of some sort. Maybe it includes some live footage, but who knows with them!
I wouldn't count on much from VH... They appear to be busy on some important projects. Most recent update on FB...
So I finally went to the groomers for a much needed haircut. Unfortunately, my skin is so sensitive I acquired razor burn and then needed to go to the vet for some spray and a "helmet". But its all good, and a "cigar" was worth the trauma.
