Bundy is using the language of freedom, patriotism and outright paranoia to further his business interests.

This is the mindset of Jone$ et. al A sense of entitlement, a carte blanche to ignore the law all due to the use of rhetoric. There is nothing, absolutely nothing "patriotic" or liberty" about Bundy and his band of redneck gun toting Robin Hood white trash fuckwits. As far as I understand this, Bundy had his day in Federal court - twice! He still refused to accept the ruling that if he wanted his cattle to graze on Federal land there were associated fees involved. Now before anyone can deem Bundy as another redneck simpleton he knew of the consequences. Other ranchers were paying their fees, F A T T E N I N G up their cattle for market but Bundy thought he could cheat the Feds you know, for being such a "patriot" and all. He was pulling a con.

This is like me going into my neighbors apartment and eating their food because I've been living here longer than they have. It's soem sort of "right" I have although not legal or even viable. Now, if they don't fucking shoot me and ask for compensation instead, I'll just cry foul and claim I'm a victim of their (imaginary) oppression for giving just cause to what is rightfully owed. See, it's that simple yet asswipes like Smellvis can't understand that everything in life comes with a price.

The BLM, U.S. Forest Service or what have you do not maintain America the Beautiful to be America the Beautiful for nothing. Cattle grazing has caused significant ecological damage in the southwest where it is not feasible due to arid soil conditions. Smellvis thinks somehow that land in Nevada will just take care of itself - like how Libertardians think people with outrageous medical bills will miraculously resolve themselves if they join a church and then have that church pay for them.

The Mormons used to clash with the federal government over polygamy and territorial rights. My mom's family settled in southern California and were doing well there but got called back into Utah by Brigham Young because federal troops were marching into Utah to remove Brigham Young as the territorial governor. It was called the Utah War but there was no fighting beyond destroying the US Army's supply train and making them spend a miserable cold winter in Wyoming.

Of course nothing has changed. Who motivated the politicians in Washington DC to go after the mormons were the oligarchs. They wanted the minerals in Utah. South Temple Street in Salt Lake City has fabulouse mansions built by the copper and silver barons. They built a separate financial district away from Temple Square in an attempt to reduce the mormon focal point.

Not that it's a squabble between the mormon church and the BLM. The modern mormon church is basically a holding company and one of the largest owners of real estate in the US. They own the largest cattle operation in the US. They are so connected to the Republican establishment nobody in Washington DC is going to give them any trouble.

Bundy is on his own. He has his beliefs. Maybe he really believes it or he's using it as an excuse not to pay fees. Apparently he can afford the fees so I'm thinking this guy really does believe they have a spiritual connection to that land and the federal government has over time just become corrupt and is the great satan.

Of course people with an agenda are going to spin things to fit whatever agenda they want to push forward. You have to look at all the angles and come up with you own conclusions.

The situation just needs to be settled in a diplomatic way. The BLM was out of line and Bundy was out of line. What's this First Amendment Zone shit? We have to remember this is a country on edge with a bad economy, and the Patriot Act and National Defense Authorization Act don't help matters. Yeah. People are keyed up and paranoid. Look at the gun and ammo sales over the last few years. People fear the government. It's not a good situation. Honestly, government officials with half a brain wouldn't spur the paranoia on.

Someone needs to provide a safe setting where both parties can sit down and discuss the situation. This gorilla dust bullshit is just going to lead to someone getting hurt or killed and then a whole powder keg goes off.
