Let's say the western states get a large amount of what is federal land. Most states have debt. They probably would be tempted to sell public land to raise money. Also, states don't have an open line of credit with the Federal Reserve Bank to finance the cost of fighting forest fires and clearing brush and under growth.
The people who are crying that the federal government owns too much land in the west and it should be state land are the same people who wouldn't want to pay the cost of maintaining the land. They want the federal government to pay for fighting forest and brush fires. The land becomes a burdon unless it's leased or sold.
Who owns that land is the US citizens. It's public land. It's not BLM land. It's not really federal land. It's the people's land. Something these federal departments and agencies forget.
