Merely following every word isn't the point...
Did I say that ??
The point is to have a relationship with Jesus Christ through His Blood, through prayer, through relationships and through the Word of God from the Bible, in context...
But one must be born again to see the Kingdom of Heaven...
You kind of implied it with that statement...........Green Eggs and Ham is a children's book and The Bible is the word of the one true living God...
The blatant fact that most Christians overlook is that you can't, in a modern society, live according to every word in the bible and though it gets used time and again Leviticus is the classic example how people cherry pick the bible.
Being gay is an abomination and therefore homosexuality is a sin........
Yet wearing mixed linens, offering burnt sacrifices, killing women who've had premarital sex, the proper way to rape a slave, and the other barbaric acts that God demands that you do are just allegories because no rational modern person would do the things that God demands.
The simple fact is.....no one lives the bible the way it's written........you can fool yourself in thinking you understand the bible better than most, therefore you resolve the most basic conflict of following the bible........skipping the bizarre rituals and picking the parts you find easy to live with. It's such a simple black and white concept......you either believe everything written as it's written or you're a hypocrite, period.
You'd think if God inspired the Gospel authors and every word is the word of God, he'd at least get the Crucifixion right. The entire Christian faith rests on one thing.....he was crucified and rose from the dead.
Yet Mark, Mathew, Luke and John can't even get the time of the crucifixion right, they claim robbers were crucified with Jesus (totally contradicting the fact that crucifixion wasn't used on robbers, just non-Roman political dissidents), who carried the cross, who was at the crucifixion and what Jesus' last words were.
Kinda sloppy work on God's part considering a whole new religion was going to be created around it.
That was the rationalization for Christians to kill Jews throughout the centuries!
That's such a shallow view of a subject you seem to know very little about...
I never said I understand the Bible better than anyone...you just read things into stuff that aren't there...
When I read the Bible, I take the literal statements literally, and the figurative statements figuratively....
I use common sense, experience, and what knowledge of language and grammar I have to discern the difference...
Then there's hermeneutics, which is the theory and methodology of interpretation of statements, especially scriptural text...
There's an amazing amount of depth to everything in the Bible and man will never agree to all of it's meaning...
But I believe it to be true, all of it...
It's your problem if you don't...
I'd say my knowledge of the Bible is better than most Christians and I've proven that throughout the years here.
On the one hand you admit that parts are allegories and other parts are literal, which parts?
Killing your wife because she's not a virgin on your wedding night.........allegory.
Being gay.....literal.
Sounds like cherry picking to me!
Santa Claus is a character based on old stories that may or may not be factual. The bible is a book based on stories that may or may not be factual. Over the years the stories have evolved. Those stories you mention might have been based on stories that evolved over thousands of years too. The talking snake might have been a man or woman in the original story. The parting of the sea might have been the story of a dam that was built to make it easier to get from point A to point B. Jonah might have been a man who survived an ordeal at sea by clinging on to a dead whale carcass.
The existence of a supreme being might be inconceivable to people but they're willing to believe the universe evolved out of a ball of gasses that just appeared out of nowhere millions of years ago.
My kids believe in Santa Claus but not the Christian God, Santa is of course in their eyes far more plausible...
The irony is that ELVIS no more follows the teachings of the bible on homosexuality than Clay Atkins.
Otherwise he would be in jail for stoning people...
That's not what I said at all......
Technically, the Romans killed Me. But only because SOME of the right wing religious Jews begged them to do so.
Pilate really wanted nothing to do with it, and his wife told him he should stay out of it, but he thought he would be in trouble with Caesar if the Pharisees made a big stink about it. They were still upset because I killed their profit margin in the Temple.
It must be terrible to go through your short lifetime on earth too frightened to enjoy the incredible privilege.
Scared of death
Scared of demons
Scared of an invisible sky daddy punishing you
Scared of government plots
Scared of the new world order
Scared of black people
Scared of gays...
Yeah, but I'm not doing it today...
Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment...
If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city. Deuteronomy 22:23-24
And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him. Leviticus 24:16
If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her ... and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid: Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate: And the damsel's father shall say ... these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city. ... But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel: Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die. Deuteronomy 22:13-21
They found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day. ... And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones.... And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses. Numbers 15:32-56
Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die. 1 Kings 21:10
I don't?
Were you there when My Dad told Abraham that he would be the father of many nations?
Were you there when Moses led My people out of Egypt?
Were you there when the Pharisees whipped and beat Me within an inch of My life and then demanded that Pilate nail Me to a cross that said "King of the Jews" on it, because I dared to tell them that they were wrong in how they interpreted Scripture.
So tell Me, Gregory. How do ye know more about Jews than I?
What's the difference between the nation of Israel and the people if Israel ??
I'm surprised you don't know that's a total myth.
The "eye of the needle" has been claimed to be a gate in Jerusalem, which opened after the main gate was closed at night. A camel could only pass through this smaller gate if it was stooped and had its baggage removed. This story has been put forth since at least the 15th century, and possibly as far back as the 9th century. However, there is no evidence for the existence of such a gate.[3][4]
Variations on this story include that of ancient inns having small entrances to thwart thieves, or a story of an old mountain pass known as the "eye of the needle", so narrow that merchants would have to dismount from their camels and were thus more vulnerable to waiting brigands. There is no historical evidence for any of these, either. This also ignores the explanation given in Matthew 19:27:“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
It's called a parable, Sesh. Don't try to read all that much into it. I used parables as a way of telling stories, and getting the point across in a way that the Pharisees could not refute with their religious dogma.
When I told the rich guy in question "Sell everything you have, and give your money to the poor", that was the more direct approach. Sadly, he still didn't get it.
If ye mean the current nation of Israel, that was established by a UN mandate in 1948, and was thus a creation of man.
The people of Israel are exactly that. Israel is another name for Jacob, who was the son of Isaac, who was the son of Abraham and Sarah. The "miracle baby" that My Dad promised this couple who had been on Earth nearly a century with no children. So the people of Israel are their descendants.
