Don't know if it's the same down there, but a big issue here is the location of the grocery stores. If it's in a poorer neighbourhood, processed shit is cheap and fresh produce and meat is way overpriced. I always shop in the more upscale neighbourhoods for that reason...

24% of the Canadian population is obese. 34% of the US population is obese. The problem is lifestyle. People drive everywhere. Most people work sitting down at a desk. They eat like lumberjacks while doing nothing. The reason the previous generations were thinner is they did more physical work. We outsourced our work or have immigrants do the physical stuff at home while we stuff our face sitting at a computer. Even if you don't have a job the welfare is generous and you still can get fat.

Why would Ace need a new TV? He's supposedly blind, so he wouldn't need a clear picture.

They used to have radios that would pickup sound from the VHF/UHF TV bands, but I'm sure those were rendered useless by the digital transmission conversion.

For the record, I still have two CRT TVs. They aren't plugged in, of course, but it's not like I could sell the more recent of the two, and I just hate to part with the 13" Sony from the mid 80s, because it's a rare model, and theoretically probably worth more than I paid for it (and it wasn't cheap either) if anybody actually collects that sort of thing.

That's why I stopped driving to school and just eat fruit for lunch. Gained 40 pounds when I moved to this non-bicycle friendly city. My mom recently moved here and has commented numerous times how fat people are here compared to the west coast.

If you want to get in shape on a busy schedule do kettle bell workouts. They don't take much time and you get weight lifting and cardio workouts at the same time. Start doing some basic swings at first starting with a 10 or 15 pound kettle bell.

I have a completely non science based theory that the main difference on average between our shitty diet and the even shittier diet in the US is the extra insanity of bad US breakfasts but I could be wrong.

I really don't know what a US breakfast is. Not everyone eats the same thing here. In fact a marketing executive for Heinz told me they were having a hell of a time trying to pin down people's eating habits here because there are so many choices now. People really don't eat American food here so to speak. They eat all kinds of stuff. You might have sushi for one meal and Tex-Mex food the next. I guess buffalo is American. The natives ate it and the animal is native to the US. A bison burger is pretty American but pretty healthy too. Bison is a lean meat.

If I look at my parents generation is was meat and potatoes. Probably similar over there. Sure people eat a more diverse range of stuff now. Our grandparents wouldn't eat sushi. It would freak them out. But look at what people did for a living. In the past more people were on farms in the US. People did more physical work and they walked more. The stories of walking both ways up hill to school in the snow are somewhat true.

I would say physical activity is way down. That's the culprit I see. Maybe consuming more carbohydrates. People drink a lot more soda pop and eat more candy now than they used to.

Down here, a big home cooked breakfast is typically eggs, bacon or sausage, biscuits and homemade gravy. I typically have oatmeal for breakfast or a homemade breakfast burrito.

More people are raising bison. Less heart disease. It used to be the only place you could get a buffalo burger was in cafes on indian reservations. The Shoshone always raised buffalo and you could go in to this hole in the wall cafe and get a buffalo burger. They also had the best french fries. I always used to stop there if I was going down I-15 and had time.

I agree the main thing is less activity for kids and and adults.

Especially kids and to be fair, video games and porn were in comparison completely shit in our time and we still spent enough time on them.

Even if they have an exercise hobby you still need to keep an eye on their calories without fucking them up.
