I just finished calling 911 after finding a young woman laying in the street with a VERY swollen face...definitely an assault victim.
Cops got there first. Told me I could leave. I refused to leave till the ambulance got there, used the excuse that I had thrown my coat over her and wanted her to stay warm till EMS arrived. She was holding my hand the whole time and gave it an extra squeeze when I said I would wait for EMS. How sad that I couldn't trust the police simply because she was First Nations...
