I would think the malpractice insurance would be a whole bunch more at some stand alone clinic, than at a hospital.

My Son's malpractice insurance is covered by the hospital.

All I know is you see more and more stand alone surgical centers and if you compare what they charge to what a hospital does there is a cost advantage. I know of some surgeons who were not happy with the hospital they were working for so they went in on their own.

My daughter is a huge fan of Joan's from that retarded show on E or whatever it is where her, that pig Kelly Osborne and a couple other chuckle heads talk about celebs' clothes. She'd have it on sometimes in the living room and Joan was still funny as hell, I mean laugh out loud funny. The only down side was having to see that freak Osborne kid, man is that one ugly bitch or what.

The article I saw said it happened during an endoscopy but it didn't say it they were performing surgery or just an examination. I just found a story related to this.

Odds are better that they quit administering the coma inducing drugs and her brain activity showed no change.

The technology today... doctors can tell by brainwave activity in specific regions whether a person is brain dead or not. There's almost always some sort of remote possibility the person may come back when they quit inducing the coma... the possibility is usually less than 1%.

More likely scenario is the family had to take time to reach the tough decision to remove life support and let her pass... and gave vague, hopeful thinking press releases until reality was unmistakable... She was most likely gone the day she arrived in the ER on day 1.

Well, if that story is true, it would be more a matter of medical incomptence than murder. Propofol isn't something to fuck around with. Also sounds like they had no idea how to do a "routine" intubation, which makes me question the medical credntials of all the doctors at this so called "clinic". I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but I'm reasonably certain that's something covered in the earliest levels of medical school. Probably nursing school too (ELVIS can verify that one, or not).

At least the paramedics knew how to do it. Theoretically, at least that gave Joan a fighting chance to recover, but maybe the damage was done by the time they got there. Doesn't sound like she was brain dead, but if she had no oxygen going to her brain for several minutes (we ARE talking NYC traffic here, so who knows how long it took the ambulance to show up) then some form of brain damage is very likely. About the only way you can survive more than a few minutes without oxygen and avoid long term brain damage is if you got locked in a freezer or fell into some cold water, and your body went into a mild form of "cryogenesis" hibernation. Don't think that would have worked here though. I'm sure this "clinic" was air conditioned, but even on the maximum setting, probably not cold enough.

Now if this had been an Apprentice episode, they just could have sent the rest of her team out to buy shitloads of ice.......
