AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd on New Zealand murder plot charge
The drummer of the heavy metal group AC/DC, Phil Rudd, has been charged by New Zealand police with attempting to arrange a murder.
Mr Rudd, who was born in Australia, will also face charges of possessing the drugs methamphetamine and cannabis, and of threatening to kill.
The musician's house in Taraunga, on New Zealand's North Island, was raided on Thursday morning.
AC/DC is due to release a new album later this year.
The band's guitarist, Malcolm Young, was recently diagnosed with dementia.
Mr Rudd, 60, was kicked out of the band in 1983 and rejoined in 1994.
A police official quoted by the SunLive news website said the information that led to the raid on the house was provided by a member of the public.
Just another reason why EVERY drug on the planet should be legalized...
American by birth. Southern by the grace of God.
And I'll just go ahead and toss it out there - yes, most meth/pot heads are outstanding members of society. I know. They ALL do nothing but contribute to the greater good and have all sorts of great ideas. Right up until they get all methed out and decide to KILL YOU.
Pot and meth are not even remotely comparable. One is a relatively harmless plant that my Former Employer created. The other is so destructive I won't even allow it in Hell. (not to mention a meth lab explosion in this heat would be a VERY bad thing)
Says you. Ask the meth heads and they'd tell you it should be just as legal as beer. I myself have enjoyed the mary jane many times. But...you can't have it both ways. I say this one's bad, you say this one's good, who decides? The people? Hahahahahah! The trailer park in town would vote for Proposition Meth at a shocking level.
Again, you can't pick and choose the dope that gets legalized, even though half the country is. I used to love cocaine and I NEVER suffered any ill effects. So why can't I go out and buy the good shit, legally?
I don't think anyone here has enough information to comment on whether he should be prosecuted or not at this point.
Why a multi-millionaire drummer rock star would need to try and arrange a murder does seem a bit weird though and instinctively you assume that it was just druggy paranoid rambling BS but who knows...?
I say the standard should be whether or not it exists in nature. Pot is a plant. Beer is made from plants. Cocaine and opium are plants too, but that should probably be somewhat restricted. Maybe a prescription model.
I just heard something about shrooms being used to treat depression on HellRadio. Think that's a most unholy idea. Nobody needs that meth garbage for anything, and if all the natural drugs were at the very least de-criminalized, and in the case of weed & shrooms outright legal, I don't think anybody would want to use it anymore.
"Breaking Bad" might have been great fiction, but the reality of meth is far worse.
Wait a minute...I see what you did here. You used the Devilly Mind Trick on me. All the times I used cocaine, I never killed anybody, ripped anybody off, or died. Well, there was that one time that I thought I was dead but it turned out ok. So why shouldn't I be able to go to the beer store down the road, buy a case or two and a righteous bag of blow and burn through a weekend? Why should I have to have a prescription? IF my prescription can say "Three kilos of blow to be snorted over the next two weekends, as needed. Refills require authorization." then I'm good with it. But you wanna restrict me to some arbitrary amount of blow?? I think not.
Recreational use has a different definition depending on who you are.
dirty deeds, done dirt cheap!
Or.... done with sheep?
And I actually could care less. I just figured Ford, I mean Satan needed someone to argue with, seeing as how Elvis is kinda gone now.
The 'natural' argument is often used and you see it all the time in advertising but it's built on the flawed logic that there aren't thousands of natural things that kill us.
There are mushrooms that will kill you.
These things are all natural.
Sammy Hagar exists in nature...
Drummer Phil faces up to 10 years in jail if convicted of attempting to procure murder of 2 men
AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has appeared in a New Zealand court charged with attempting to procure the murder of two men.
The 60-year-old was arrested early this morning when his home in Tauranga was raided by police, acting on information received from a member of the public. The alleged offences are said to have taken place between September 25 and 26 this year.
He later entered no plea at Tauranga District Court to the main charge, plus additional charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of cannabis and threatening to kill. If found guilty, he could face a jail sentence of up to 10 years.
Investigating officers have named the two intended victims and the person who was to carry out the killings, but the information was suppressed by Judge Louis Bidois.
Rudd was released on bail and will return to court in three weeks, Stuff.co.nz reported. He made no statement as he left the building.
The drummer became the subject of speculation when he failed to appear for a video shoot in London last month, ahead of the release of AC/DC’s 16th album Rock Or Bust on December 1. The band later released a press photo that didn’t feature Rudd, but offered no explanation. Frontman Brian Johnson is said to have told fans during the shoot that Rudd was absent for family reasons.
Rock Or Bust will be the Aussie giants’ first album without mainman Malcolm Young, who’s been forced to retire as a result of dementia.
Rock or Bust indeed!
Meth, crime organization... If this is all true, then Phil Rudd fell into dementia too...
So, who's next? Cliff Williams convicted of molesting his wife, drunk up to his eyes yelling "Hoooooooneeeeey!!!! What d'ya do for money?!?!?"?
Angus frantically treading on one foot upon a bunch of old people in a retirement home because everyone else in the band is going crazy?
Angus Old...
There's always the Firm drummer. Again. I say release the album and call it a day Angus.
If I had a nickle for everyone who threw out the Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap line on the internet in the last 24 hours.....
Stay Frosty, muthas!
Maybe he's been watching too much Breaking Bad.
RE "Rudd, described as 'a good man at heart' by the man police allege was the intended hitman", I don't know anything about Rudd apart from he is a drummer with great swing but guilty or not I would suggest that when this goes to trial even I would be a better character witness than the hitman...
Charge has been dropped.
So it was all just a stunt...
What's next a reality show ??
Oh thank fuck. It's been so long since an irrelevant rock star was brought up on drug charges.
Phil is going to make a jailbreak.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!
The drug charges will be dropped. The only reason they found them was they raided his house on false pretenses.
Any evidence obtained will be inadmissible in court.
He should sue the local po-po for libel.
What a fucking year for AC/DC.........
