That is a good exhibit for Overplayed. I actually like a lot of Steely Dan, but not most of it.

Then there's Michael McDonald. Not only did he do to the Doobie Brothers what Hagar did to Van Halen.... he actually helped in the pussification of Van Halen by writing the keyboard part to "I'll Wait". And I hated that fucking song before I knew Mushmouth McDonald had anything to do with it.

The Doobies made exactly ONE decent song with him in the band, "Taking It To The Streets". The rest was elevator crap.

Oddly enough, Mushmouth was the original keyboard player for Steely Dan. Must be where he learned to SUCK.

Steely Dan were professional studio musicians. Guys who actually could read music and knew the theory behind it. Not easy music the play. A lot is going on in a Steely Dan song. The lyrics are unique and so is the music.

These guys are the worst.

The Police were three excellent musicians who purposefully played below their potential and used various marketing gimmicks to have a music career. If they played to their full potential and acted like stuck up jazz musicians nobody would have given a ratt's ass about them and they would stave. The Police was a marketing gimmick developed to appeal to what was going on in London in the early 70's. Once you become popular in London you can be marketed in the states as something unique from Europe. The fake image and blonde hair and the dumbed down music drove Sting nuts. I think Andy got tired as well. Stewart had fun. He kick ass drummed during the dumbed, down dumb ass song regardless.
