I saw Robin Trower this past Saturday night , October 4th. at The Pageant here in St. Louis . It was sold out - 2,000 seats ! I believe it was opening night of his current U.S. tour . He's promoting a release of blues and rock and roll covers .
He kicked off the night with " A Caravan To Midnight " and cruised through about 90 minutes of the most soulful and fluid guitar virtuosity you could ask for . He played the classics , " Lady Love " , " Daydream " , " Day Of The Eagle " , " Bridge Of Sighs " some covers , " Little Red Rooster " , and a very funky-Troweresque " That's Alright Mama " . A newer original called " Lawyer " which rocks like his classics and ended with the trifecta of " A Little Bit Of Sympathy " and the encores " Too Rolling Stoned " and " For Earth Below " At nearly 70 years of age , the man can still bring it live . His solo's still bring appreciative cheering from his loyal audience and his trademark facial expressions just add emphasis to his brilliant playing . After the show he was cool enough to sign autographs for the 100 or so people standing outside in the chilled late night . He appreciates his audience . I've said it before , he is surprisingly small and frail and a very humble gentleman but he plays guitar like he's 9 feet tall . Go see this living legend while you can . You will not regret it .
