My guess is that they had to invent a special category for Ringo, because the other three Beatles all got indvidual inductions as solo artists, based on the strength of the material they wrote. Ringo never wrote anything... he had a few big solo hits, but they were all covers - with the exception of "It Don't Come Easy" which was an original, written by George, who recorded it for his own album, but didn't use it.....
