Any advice/tips for bulking up and adding definition?
The Power Of The Riff Compels Me
Bench press, military press, lat pulls, curls, & tricepts. Pick a weight that you can barely do 10-12 reps. Then do 3-sets of 8-12 reps adding 5-10lbs for each. Lift 3-4 times a week(every other day).
That's for upper body. Do same for legs.
Mix-up work out every couple of weeks to confuse your muscles doing lighter weight but more reps for definition.
Also doing negative reps where, for example, you would lower the weight slowly versus lifting it.

Or you can do whatever the HELL this guy does!
Diet is definitely important. I have a pretty good build now (6', 185lbs), but I'm looking to go bigger. From what I've been reading, I've been working out too often (every day) and doing an all over workout rather than focussing on specific areas with each workout.
One positive thing I've found is that the stronger my core gets the easier everything else becomes (because it helps balance). Doing situps/ crunches and other abdominal exercises is very important.
I think I'll also buy an EZ Curl bar after Xmas. My free-weight bar is OK, but I'll be able to do more tricep exercises with an EZ Curl.
Bit young for a midlife crisis...
This whole topic screams midlife crisis.
Get a tricep bar.

You can do a few hundred decent exercises with one of these.
Fuck I only tuned in because people kept mentioning bars

Best of luck, Binnie.
binnie, ever tried a kettlebell?
Midlife crisis? I'm 32!
It's about keeping in shape. I have job where I'm at a desk all day. In the last three months, I've been exercising a lot and eating properly. You feel better, have more energy, and tone up. It's addictive though, and I'd like to get bigger. 15-20lbs of muscle mass would be good.
Yeah , from what I can tell kettle bells work best with your vagina . Never seen any one use them at my gym but every women in the office has one
From what I hear, the exercises you can do with them are very good for burning fat.
I work with a former Mr Sunderland . Mackum twat obviously but he is ripped . Been to his gym and he lifts cars for fun .
Seemingly it's the kitchen where body builders are made .
Maybe talk to the regulars at the gym ( not a bunch of piss pot music fans )
But diet sounds like one of the changes your gonna have to make .
Eat lots of protein. For bulk lift more weight and do less reps. Do three reps to where at the end of the third rep you are really pushing to finish it. Not to the point of jerking the weights or using bad form but where it's a challenge to finish in proper form. You might drop the weight just a tad. Remember keeping good form is more important than lifting more weight. Also have a all around workout. Just don't focus on biceps, pecks, and building a six pack. Work your whole body but you can spend extra attention to the areas you want to tone. It's funner to lift with a group of people. If you are working out with free weights you want a spotter; especially if you are lifting a lot of weight. You don't want to get pinned with a barbell with nobody around to help you. I have found protein powders do work. They aren't cheap but neither is steak. Don't neglect your cardiovascular workout either. Back when I was eating a butcher shop full of meat and doing heavy lifts I swam laps three times a week.

No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!
Kettle bells are a whole different ball game than traditional bar bell lifting. They are very good for all around fitness. If you do the Russian methods of using them you can kill two birds with one stone. Get a cardio and weight lifting workout at the same time. You aren't going to build beach muscles with them but if you are into sports or marshal arts they are a good system. Also if you are limited on workout time you can get a lot done with kettle bells.
Diet has already been changed - dropped 10lbs in two weeks, and my waist was only 34'' when I started. Protein seems to be key.
The mistake I've been making is focussing on number of reps rather than weight, and not being intense enough in targetting one muscle group per workout. Six pack is coming along nicely
Man I remember a 34" waist ... Fuck school was tough
Maybe, Kristy, maybe.
Or perhaps I just enjoy exercising.
That's not saying much...
