    Original Van Halen I Artwork

From Ultimate Classic Rock article by Greg Renoff, a teaser from his Van Halen Rising book...

"They Tried to Make Us Look Like the Clash” -Edward

With a lower case h and no space between Van and Halen, I can only imagine some record exec decided the band name should look and flow like Santana.

Scratch that. Someone jazzed up their club days logo...

It's kinda cookie cutter and formulaic, but I don't think it makes them "look like The Clash" at all, which was Eddie's reason for objecting to the cover.

Of course WB did manage to get one record out with that "original" logo on it (albeit not one that was widely circulated)......

This of course would be the 5 song promotional EP that was issued to radio stations in advance of the debut album.
