And the best way for these guys to make a live album is to record every show and pick the best material, like iron Maiden did...
Well, if they didn't record the NO show or any of the other 2012 shows where Dave sounded ok or better than the Tokyo show, then what does it matter? What if they only recorded the Pittsburgh or DC shows (shows I thought Dave was off for most of the show)? My assumption is that they are either releasing the only show they actually recorded, or the show they think sounds the best. And if their choices were "good enough" or "man, this would need a lot of work", then I'd assume they'd choose the former. Without knowing what shows they had to choose from for the live release it's tough to say.

Well, these are the people VH is going to need to purchase tickets to see them live. Live albums are supposed to make people want to go see the band live. This performance is not even having that affect on the most diehard VH fans.

When I heard Double Live Gonzo, I wanted to go see Ted.
When I heard Live Bullet, I wanted to go see Seger.
When I heard If You Want Blood, You've Got It, I wanted to see AC/DC.
When I heard Frampton Comes Alive, I wanted to see Frampton.
When I heard Live After Death, I wanted to see Iron Maiden.
When I heard Live You Get What You Play For, I wanted to see REO. (I don't give a fuck what you say, they were a great live band before High Infideltiy)
When I heard Get Off Your Feet, Get On Your Knees, I wanted to see Blue Oyster Cult.
When I heard Budokan, I wanted to see Cheap Trick.
When I heard Alive, I wanted to see Kiss.
When I heard Live and Dangerous, I wanted to see Thin Lizzy.
When I heard Strangers In The Night, I wanted to see UFO.
When I heard Unleashed In The East, I wanted to see Judas Priest.
When I heard Live At Leeds, I wanted to see The Who.
When I heard All The World's A Stage, I wanted to see Rush.

Those are just some off the top of my head.

When I hear this garbage release, the last thing I want to do, is go see VH live. And I'm one of the biggest diehards you'll ever meet. I can't imagine any casual fan hearing this version of Panama on the radio, and then running out to buy a ticket to see it live.

I think you're projecting way too much reason there...

...this whole band has become a "been there, done that" project...

first tour was somehow great except for the Wolf-thing...

ADKOT to me is a very good album (poor production aside)...

    second tour was disappointing...

I personally got closure...I don't give a flying shit anymore if Dave comes out with a tattoo on his shaved dick to celebrate somebody's birthday and I don't have a google alert for the latest Kody picture featuring pirate white-beard commander of the howdie doodie mountain. considering the band's history this album is in a way a logical and consistent way to run the titanic into the iceberg. they became an irrelevant joke and will fade into obscurity and give us a little mudslinging again when it's finally over...

so...I come here when I'm bored from doing something more interesting which is now 99% of the things I do including reading cartoons on the shitter.

=VH=...been there, done that...thanks for the memories

My Mum always said 'If you've got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all'.

So I won't say anything about 'Panama' and 'Runnin'....'

I was the first one to have ADKOT as it was delivered one day too early over here and two days before the US release...I might be the last one to get this one...

a dave quote comes in mind, about their manager:

“Van Halen is represented by one of the biggest idiots in the history of the sport, Irving Azoff. In fact that’s the job description; that’s his official title…We’re surrounded by all kinds of colourful characters. Promoters included.”

Sounds good to me, I don't get whats wrong with this release. It rocks. I listen to lots of shit and it sounds like Van Halen to me.

Already pre-ordered the box set done and done. Dave 4 life! I want more new albums. Live or not-live.
When you think of Van Halen you think of David Lee Roth.

Does Dave suck it up and tour? I would say probably but would love to see him say a big FU to Vh and record a solo disc.

And then I want to see Sam and Mike say "Go fuck your momma" when Ed calls them up to try and salvage what's left of his miserable career. Then I want Ed and Al and Wolfie to tour as Van Halen as a trio so I can go to the show and laugh like I've never laughed before.

Or they could just bring Mike back and crank his mic up really loud to try and cover up for Dave's "neeeyowwwww" he likes to do now.

They recorded that over a year ago. But yeah, Mikey and Dave and two more great musicians and it would sound a hell of a lot more like Van Halen than the current VH does. Then again, unless Dave puts some work in on the voice....even Mikey can't cover up all that.

Who knows..Well, Dave knows. He knows if he can sing the songs or if he's just screwin around, not really trying, etc. Ah, I'll wait to see if this "tour" materializes. Then I'll watch some crappy youtubes and read the set list and then decide if I want to go see em again. I'm sure Dave could tune up his pipes. We'll see if he does.

Those discs are pressed, the artwork is printed, and they're boxed up and sitting on a shipping dock somewhere. This ain't like the Super Bowl, where both teams have "champions" shirts printed and then the loser's shirts get sent to some tribe in the jungle somewhere...this shit is too far along, it is happening.

Based on the rumors we're hearing about shows this summer, I'm guessing they wanted some product to tour behind as the reunion angle from 07-08 wasn't going to cut it and touring in support of ADKOT has run its course. There is some precedence here from the Samburglar era when they released the "live" album between FUCK and Balance and toured in support of it. The problem with that is that it's 2015, not 1993. The other problem is that "new" release aside, this really is just an extension of the the ADKOT tour and unless they're willing to update the stage show, set list and Dave gets in better form vocally, there will be a lot of "been there, done that" feelings for this series of shows. Maybe you can get away with this in '93, but they're pushing it in 2015.

Why the 2013 Tokyo show? I think 1993 once again offers insight. The show from the 1993 release was from their previous tour, i.e., a more recent show, so i think they went that route again. Why not a show from 2012? If I had to guess, they either didn't professionally record any of those shows, or if they did, perhaps the show(s) they recorded would've required extensive vocal enhancements given Dave's vocal struggles on that tour.

I've had my share of sport with this release, but I honestly thought Dave's vocals were ok for this show, based on what I saw/heard on the Tubes. I mentioned it elsewhere, but the larger issue is that this release is what I called "the lazy middle ground". They wanted to tour this summer but wanted to tour in support of something instead of just another "oldies/hits" tour (even though that's basically what they're doing anyway), so they release this live album. Here's an idea- PUT OUT A NEW FUCKING ALBUM, THEN YOU'LL HAVE A LEGITIMATE REASON TO TOUR!!!
Or tour behind the remasters, and do what the Stones did in '02: Play a bunch of hits, then in the middle of the set play four songs from just one album. Switch these up every night...a Fair Warning night, WACF, etc. Hell they already play four songs from VH 1 and almost the same from 1984.

I'd say play one album in it's entirety and then a bunch of hits, but I doubt that most of us would be satisfied with that.

    Hahahaha....

As if Edward Lodewijk could seriously find what the fans think....

Does anyone honestly think that if you sat EVH down in front of a laptop without a browser opened he could:

    1) Launch a browser, ANY browser
    2) Do a search, ANY search for any Van Halen topic
    3) Find any comments about said Van Halen topic

But see, here's the kicker: Wolf KNOWS.....

That young man who wore only one shirt the entire last tour KNOWS.....

He grew up with the Internet.... You know he lurks on here and the Links and VHND.....

Hell, Dave knows too, he's got a staff of peeps.....

The only thing in Dave's case is whether those peeps are actually telling Dave what he NEEDS TO HEAR.....

Eddie Van Halen has never told a lie.

Wolfgang Van Halen is the greatest bass player of all time

Dave sounds brilliant on the new live Tokyo cd.

That would involve Dave going back down to House Of Blues sized venues, which me thinks he no likey.

And besides, if he were the type of artist that was down with having a cult following only, I'd think he'd start showing his head right here every now and then.

I saw DLR at the HOB in Vegas in '06, we had a great time....

Don't tell anybody this, but I heard he's in negotiations to resurrect The Beatles, Wings, Molly Hatchet, Culture Club, and the EEAS band!

I've seen Dave in smaller venues too. He still put on a great show.

I've seen him in a bunch of small venues. Hell, I've seen him at State Fairs and Casino's on Indian Reservations in the middle of nowhere. Made no difference in the quality of the show.
