I Think Journey & Foreigner Are Ok But.....

I was watching VH1 Classic the other night and the video for "That Was Yesterday" came on by Foreigner. I remembered the song and I think it's ok as harmless pop rock songs go and it suddently hit me. This sounded like something you could totally hear VHAGAR do. Some keyboard heavy sappy lyric riddled drivel that was basically forgettable. Sure if it's a choice between Boyz To Men and Foreigner I'd take the Foreigner song but when you release 6 of the most influential heavy rock albums ever (ALL IN A ROW) and have ass kicking tunes like ATCWRock, Unchained, & Running With The Devil and then go to tunes like Love Walks In & Why Can't This Be Love SOMETHING IS SEVERELY WRONG. If you ever hear the song That Was Yesterday by chance just sit and listen and you'll see what I'm talking about. I could totally see Hagar's fat ass singing that and a castrated version of EDDIE playing keys all the while saying "we've matured". If that's maturing then I never want to grow up.

I always found it funny whenever I have heard people liken Van Hagar to Journey. Last week I realized just how TRUE the comparison is!

I went to see agreat NJ-based classic VH tribute, Unchained, play at the Hard Rock Café in NYC. Oddly, a Journey tribute act (!) played before them! Listening to the song structure of all the Journey tunes, you could hear all the similarities to the unoriginal, uninspired Van Hagar music.

If anyone owns any of those shit Van Hagar albums, put some kind of 4th of July pyrotechnic inside the holes of the CD, vinyl or cassette and salute Diamond Dave as you light the fuse...

Apparently that is Eddies goal to be a hit producing machine. But those days are over for him He can write good rythem jams that we all enjoy but Hagar can't incorporate a melody line that is even the least bit hooky. If ya know what I mean. (re: Up For Breakfast)

Eddie once wrote a #1 song and it went to his head. It was a good song that went #1 by chance. He doesn't write #1 songs. He used to write good songs and now overproduces a mish mosh of non interest.

He should leave pop writing production to Diane Warren or Barry Gibb or whoever writes for Avril Levine and concentrate on blowing people away. Why this guy wants to be Night Rangar is beyond me.

He really should have Lou Grahm write the lyrics and melody lines at this point. Since Sam is just ruining VH tunes. I believe he already had a Foreiner member work with vocal production in the past. However if he wants to put out a successful Van Halen CD in the near future he should give Ted Templeman a call and bring in the ace in the hole....

Imagine Steve Perry joining Black Sabbath Ozzy's departure, and then Tony Iommi telling you how much better things are now. "oh, but Steve has a more range than Ozzy"

    You've just imagined Van Hagar.

Those car commercials awhile back got annoying. "Feels like the
first time" just repeatedly....made ya wanna smash Lou Gramm
in the face with a blue cinderblock.

The ironic thing is how Vh terrorized the guys in Journey when they toured together back in the late 70's, and VH ragged on them for writting tear-jerking bullshit songs. Little did Diamond Dave realize that Ed and his brother Shemp secretly DREAMED OF BEING IN JOURNEY! Maybe, back in '81 when Ed thought of quitting VH, HE REALLY WANTED TO JOIN JOURNEY! It totally explains the lame ass songs that the Freak Brothers have been turning out since 1985. How else could you explain LOVE COMES WALKING IN?

Same thing with Journey before Steve Perry ruined them! And everything Carlos Santana taught Neil Schon turned out to be a waste of time when Jonathan Cain walked in the room.

Exactly! Journey's better off now w/o Perry and with Schon running the band. All the cheese stuff came from Perry. Schon's a great guitarist as long as no one's holding him back. I know he hangs out with Sam at times but nobody's perfect.
