But here? I've been here long enough now that I consider the majority in here to be friends and people I'd share a beer with. I've been here for 4 years. A lot of you have been at this for over 11 years with each other. I think things "matter" in here. Just because there is large chance that some of us may never meet in the real world does not take away the human element and comraderie created. I view this board and it's great cast of characters with more respect and admiration than a good deal of the people I work with, that's for sure. Sadly, I see them 5 days a week.

I'm overweight and it is true Wolfy would be better served to do something now rather than later but it has little to do with his ability to play bass. I out work plenty of work out junkies daily and anybody that knows me would never question my work ethic or the countless hours I put in to provide for my wife and I. Genetics can really be a bitch...and Wolf is clearly his mother's son in virtually every way.

If he had more of Ed's genes, he'd probably be the lean machine Ed has always been. But he might also have the addictive personality and end up fighting the same drug/alcohol demons.

Unfortunately, I think he was a little bit fucked either way genetically. That said....DB has a point that Wolf is old enough to recognize issues and take corrective action if he wants to.

However, despite his weight issues, he does seem to be pretty happy and well adjusted. So, he has that going for him. It might be a few generations of Van Halen/Bertinelli spawn before things get balanced out....

Well put. While I agree with DB's mind over matter hard work and determination to stay fit, something sorely lacking in the youth of America, you do inherit some of your predecessors genetic disposition. Some people will never have thyroid issues. Some people will battle that shit to the end.

Either way, the kid can play bass. I just wish he hopped at the opportunity to play with a gang closer in age. I'd still check him out and the four original knuckleheads could get it together one last time and close the book.

Genetics can only carry so much. There are essentially three body types. Wolf is likely and Endomorph (meaning he naturally looks bulkier).

At the end of the day If I was Wolf, I would take better care of my health. If Wolf is happy to run the risk of (easily preventable) ill health, what ever.

The kid has been fat most his life. Kids who are fat usually start showing signs early of heart disease. Over eating is the biggest current killer in the US. Diabetes and heart disease. Frankly I don't give a damn. Wolfie has the resources to get the help he needs. IF he doesn't want to do anything about it, he deserves what's coming.

I have often wondered that... it appears to me that such a behaviour is actually quite detrimental, but what the hell do I know? I've never been to university, nor am I a doctor or a psychologist.

I guess it's all part of being a caring, understanding & tolerant person. You have to accept & encourage other people's flaws instead of trying to correct them. And tell them they're special, unique snowflakes that DESERVE everything from everyone.

I agree.. The Ed Sullivan show was the most watched program on TV in the 50's & 60's. Granted the TV world was a much smaller place back then... But the show was iconic in presenting Live performances of the major popular entertainment artists for over 2 decades. The Ellen show doesn't even come close...

Absolutely, Ellen is not even in the parking lot of the ballpark which was the Ed Sullivan show, but those comments where promotion by Dave and for the audience and host he was at, it is mad dramatizing and Dave knows damn well Ellen is not Sullivan. The masses are stupid and hyperbole works wonders on them when it is repeated again and again on them... proof can be found in the promoted lies of Hagar on everything from being as big before Van Halen, outrageous record sale claims, and his constant smear campaign against the members of Van Halen, most of the sheep believe the lie now
