I could get Wolfgang in shape in six months. It's cutting the carbs. It's cutting the fat. It's having three good meals a day and snacking on all the fruits and vegetables you want especially the kind that fill you up. Get him going with some easy swimming in the pool and some treadmill. Then we will go for some light kettle bell work. Once he's got some fat burned off we will get into some more intense weight training and some more intense swimming techniques. Might play some basketball. Burns calories like crazy and gives your body an all around good workout. If a person is really overweight the best thing you can do is get them working out in a pool. Fat people are buoyant and it won't hammer their joints and you can burn a lot of calories in a pool the water has a massaging effect and they get some all around muscle work and cardiovascular work.I'm 5' 8" and not gonna tell you my weightwhich is nowhere close to 280 but WG is way bigger than me. Look at his arms and fingers. Fortunately a beer gut doesn't do that to my arms and hands.

You know the real kicker?, at Wolfs size he would probably drop around 8 lbs in the first week or two through water retention and him being a big guy. The guy has no excuse. Hell, he could help the roadies set up or something. Lugging those big ass amps around would be a nice bit of resistance training.

Aww, Wolfie had a tough time growing up?, big deal. Show me someone who has never had a tough time in their life, you will be pretty hard pressed. It is hardly shaming, I'm stating facts. in 10 years he could have a host of health problems. Would wrapping him in cotton wool and feeling sorry for him be more productive?. He is not a kid anymore, he is 24. He should take responsibility for his own health and ensure he will not suffer from the many, many ill effects obesity can cause.

Genetics can really be a bitch...and Wolf is clearly his mother's son in virtually every way.
If he had more of Ed's genes, he'd probably be the lean machine Ed has always been. But he might also have the addictive personality and end up fighting the same drug/alcohol demons.
Unfortunately, I think he was a little bit fucked either way genetically. That said....DB has a point that Wolf is old enough to recognize issues and take corrective action if he wants to.
However, despite his weight issues, he does seem to be pretty happy and well adjusted. So, he has that going for him. It might be a few generations of Van Halen/Bertinelli spawn before things get balanced out....

Genetics can only carry so much. There are essentially three body types. Wolf is likely and Endomorph (meaning he naturally looks bulkier).
At the end of the day If I was Wolf, I would take better care of my health. If Wolf is happy to run the risk of (easily preventable) ill health, what ever.

Wolf could easily have an eating disorder...very common for kids raised in environments like he grew up in is the point I was making....

I doubt he'll ever achieve the Cambodian Stick Child skinny his daddy was sporting in 2004... But that's ok. That ain't healthy either. The root of this is... the work ethic the young man is surrounded by with his family. Crank a huge paycheck on stage or behind a camera for a few hours work... then take a year or two off. Most of us put on a few extra pounds every winter due to being cooped up indoors... our 3-4 months of down time is 18-24 for those folks...
