Thom Hartmann was referencing that book that Sesh mentioned about the origins of the religious reich. I knew all about the Fallwell/Robertson/Weyrich types who conspired to get Reagan & the BCE elected in 1980 (running against a President who was actually a Christian, no less.

But I didn't realize Billy Graham was so embedded in the right wing/corporatist/BCE establishment until now. I used to have a lot of respect for him (though admittedly when my church bought my way into a Billy Graham concert in the 80s, me and Billy Z used it as an opportunity to pick up chicks. (Hope I don't go to Hell for that)

Maybe Americans are too stupid and bigoted to elect the right person for the job even if he or she is an atheist, but we haven’t run that experiment yet and until we do, I will not take atheists’ condescending guesses on faith. I don’t have faith — I’m an atheist.

Americans don't have much of a choice in who gets elected because of the two party system. Depending on whose turn it is to win the other party does their damndest to trot out an unelectable candidate. The independant candidate is just there to syphon votes away from the predetermined loser.
