I hope the strong performance is indicative of more rehearsing for this tour because the band was under rehearsed for ADKOT tour.
I'm not big at ripping people on weight But at a certain point with Wolf it becomes a health issue, he has gotten very big. It still amazes me how thin Roth has gotten in recent years.

Van Halen has sold over 97 Million records in their 42 years in existence. 57 million coming from the 7 Roth fronted albums and 27 million for the 4 Hagar fronted albums. Not including live records or compilations here, just studio albums. Roth albums average out to be right around 8 million a record. The average is thrown off by the fact that 34 million album sales came from the debut and “1984” alone. Hagar albums average out to be right around 7 million a record. So we are really close here averaging it out and taking into account that Roth has 3 more records than Hagar.
Dave's facts were on the mark however per album sales were a little closer. If ADKOT had never been made the per album sales would be a little farther apart.

If memory serves, it went something like 6 mil (5150), 4 mil (ou812) and like 3 mil each for fuck and balance. those numbers aren't current to this second, so if we want to be generous and add like another mil or 2 to the totals of the four combined i'm ok with that. 5150 was the best selling of the 4 and there's no way that thing has gone over 10+ mil.

From RIAA numbers I get Van Halen sold 62 million while Van Hagar sold 21 million. 5150 sold just under 7 million while Balance sold about 3.5. 1984 and their debut sold near 15 million EACH. The numbers are not even close. After a peak of 7 Van Hagar sales declined about 30% per successive album while never having an uptick in sales, each sold less than its predecessor. In regard to peers you can track Van Hagar sales and Poison sales and the numbers actually match within a few hundred thousand. Regardless of opinion on content those are the sales facts and yes RIAA does have geographies not included but Van Hagar was even less of an attraction overseas than Van Halen which is true of Hagar's entire career. Adding those geographies likely only tilts the numbers more in Van Halen's direction. Look at bands from era that have multiple Platinum records, check out that peer group. Van Hagar's sales cohort is Poison. Just let that soak in.

Every thing you say is true. The VH's have sat on their 60 year old asses letting precious time tick by and Dave (Mr. Action Jackson) is probably frustrated. But he needs to keep it in the tent. Not on the public air-waves.
As the team leader, Dave should have cut his Japan adventure short if he thought the Van Halens were losing motivation. If he was really worried about work ethic maybe he should have been hanging out at 5150 and
getting creative with Ed and Al. But I assume Ed could not be in the same room with Dave for any lengthy amount of time at risk of ending the band as we know it now.

Unfortunately, singing just one song isn't quite the same as a whole 26-tune gig. Dave could have sung perfectly last Sunday night, considering he only had Panama to belt out. But he still messed a few small parts.
The real treat would be for him to work on his voice and singing.

It probably didn't hurt matters performing in front of and hearing several artists who can actually hit the real notes and melodies from their songs rather than just throw it out with attitude and reckless abandon. Kanye West excluded...

I actually sat through the whole excruciating show (nothing else on TV) and saw maybe three performances where somebody was actually singing (as opposed to auto-tuned or outright lip syncing)
Comparing one old band against another, I'd say Dave sounded better that night than Jim Kerr from Simple Minds did though.
