Amazing! A "rare" recording of 'Sugar Mama' and endless other remixes that go absolutely nowhere.

Superhype music definitely living it to its name eh, kids?

    Thumbs down

So in this era when Page was full of heroin, Bonzo could hardly play due to bowel malfunctions (seriously, he had to be escorted around in a camper with a functioning toilet system), Jones lacked interest, rather being with his family and Plant was off reading books and dating teenagers (apparently, a band habit).

The music is telling. Presence is brilliant in it's desperation. No keyboards, just hard, menacing rock. You don't need a bunch of subpar outtakes to flesh it out. Some live tracks would have been cool, but the group were so sloppy at that point that there is no evidence available of a good show. For proof, remember that live DVD set? There is a scant version of one song from that ill-fated 1977 tour, and you have to find it hidden, while fucking with the remote.

So we get a bunch of rehearsal mixes and songs "in progress". Hoo-ray.

At one point in my life I would have found this spectacular and enriching for a musician. Now, an older and embittered man, I call it unnecessary navel gazing.

Coda was great, but the less said about In Thru The Outdoor the better. And no amount of retakes are going to improve either.

Sorry for the cynicism. I guess the music industry has simply built up a resolve regarding some lame attempt towards integrity in me.

Can't imagine what the outtakes from In Through The Out Door would be? Maybe the full 25 minute version of the disco song "Carouselgoddamnthisishorribleambra" because you know that 10 minute version on the album had to be an edit?

And how does Coda have a bonus disc worth of outtakes when it WAS a disc worth of outtakes to begin with?

Judging by the third disc of Coda, these are the songs the fans wanted all along Such as 'Sugar Mama', the 'What Can I Do' from the third album session outtakes and 'Traveling Riverside Blues' that should have put on the respective discs at the times they were recorded in the first place. From what I can remember about first listening to the previous releases from last year the sound quality is not all that improved from the first "remasters." Those Van Halen re-re-released "1/4 Masters" you can tell some effort was actually put into the process but zero on the packaging. With Schleppy, it's about the packaging.
