I never got 'Hysteria' until a couple of years ago. I was juding it as a 'metal' record. When I realised it was a 'rock' record, my ears were opened. It is an absolutely stunning piece of work.
Agree that those first two records have so much energy, however....

The computer drumming kills the energy on Hysteria. I know it sounds a bit harsh but Def Leppard really suffer a bit from the drumming post arm loss.
Not long afterwards the technology improved so that sequenced drum tracks could be given a 'human' variance in the timekeeping which would help a bit.
On a related note why is it about Pour Some Sugar that it has been decided to be the DL song by DJ's and everyone else, I hate that pat a cake shit song.

Hysteria is a good pop record. It's the thriller of Pop Rock.
It's just not what I define as Def Leppard.

Half of Def Leppard's membership is gone (original 2 guitarists and half of a drummer) and clearly it was the better half.
High and Dry is the best album they ever made. Gotta wonder what Pyromania might have been if they finished it with the original lineup.
Rarely listen to Hysteria anymore, and never bothered at all with any of the albums after that.

Supposedly the arm stayed in the Corvette and the nerves pulled out of it. Allen mentioned in an interview once that the nerves were "balled up" and sewn into his shoulder.
25 years later and the guy has figured out how to wipe his ass etc with one hand, maybe getting a replacement isn't high on his list of priorities.
Adrenalize, Euphoria, and X are pretty bad. I don't mind Slang.
Collen and Elliott's Cybernauts project, a tribute to Mick Ronson, was good.
